As far as the edge of the diamond, I do not see anything there like an actual crack or dent, I believe the silver contrasting with the dark green makes us think there may be.
Interesting. I first thought it was the image quality, but I think I see it in other references as well (or my eyes are playing tricks on me). Could be a crack, or imperfection in that diamond pull. Could even be a paint imperfection in one of the layers underneath,

I'd recommend sanding the surface to prep for the paint and the texture method of your choice. I'd start with 220-320 grit, then finish off the sanding with 400+. You may want to remove the esb style details/ chipping they left on the cast as well, before you add the rough texture and "painted...
