Cut the strips on the bias. They should fray less on the bias and be slightly stretchy, so they'll wrap more like an Ace bandage. The bias is the diagonal grain of the fabric.

Here's the problem with the smooth-on resin as far as using it to reinforce your gauntlets... It gets hot when it sets. Very hot. Hot enough to possible melt, warp, or damage your styrene gauntlets. On the other hand. If you are on it and know what you're doing, it is less gooey and stinky...

hmm. I know how to make realistic looking SFX human parts (heads, hands, etc.) using silicone skin over AB foam with some here and there's from taxidermy stores. Tho you would need a model for this. And it could get pricey. Also. I think weight is going to be an issue here. Foam may be key.
