I am have been a passionate Star Wars fan since I waited in line 6 hours to see it when it first came out. Four years ago my teenage son was diagnosed with cancer and he and I decided to build an R2 unit to learn robotics since he was going to have to drop out of school to do chemo. It wasn't long before he couldn't help anymore, but I continued the work at night when I got home from the hospital. My therapy. Soon R2 was roaming the halls outside his room protecting him. Word got around and I was invited by the 501st to help at a Make-A-Wish event with R2 for a little boy who had leukemia.
I knew of the 501st but had never met any of them before. After this event, I was hooked. Rogue One trailers had just come out so I started participating in a build group for Death Troopers on Facebook. I poured over photos and data as it came out. I had to quit my day job in the television production industry to care for my son, so I started 3D printing and modeling parts and blasters for the Death Troopers. A few months later I showed up at a con at the 501st booth with a finished Death Trooper that I had built myself. Photos were taken and TX-97649 was born, one of the first 12 DTs in the world.
The same excitement I got when I saw the Death Troopers in Rogue One came across me when I saw the first photos from The Mandalorian. I was always a big fan of Boba Fett, but the whole look of this guy got me excited. I'm currently work on this build and look forward to being a Bounty Hunter.
