Started work back on this. Plates have been worked on with sandpapers (grits 320, 400, 800, 1000) then Mother's Alumnimum Polish. Not sure, however, if they're coming out bright enough.

Update:
Will be heading for a 20 day field problem pretty soon, and I really wanted the armor done by mid-October so I could work on it and have it finished for Alamo City Comic Con and Halloween. So, I sent it off to saint_nasty to utilize his great services. Unfortunately, the box arrived in this condition:

The backplate was chipped and the packing paper I used somehow got stuck to it! So, working on getting a new one rushed in now so that the project can still be done on-time.

On my end:
Pulled the Crowes boots out of storage and started working on them. I tried metallic acrylic silver paint from HobbyLobby, but it would not stick for anything. So I took Mulreel's advice and switched to Rub'nBuff. Worked like a charm, just taped off the areas and painted it on. As you can see, my tape work was a little off, but not too badly. I think it's workable, though I will try to clean it up.

Also gnabbed my trooping blasters. These were purchased on the fleabay. Keeping my eye out for a pair of MRs.

Waiting currently on Seeker's backlog to finish up my ammo pouches and jetpack harness. That will finish off soft parts!
As far as accessories go, I also managed to gnab a set of kevlar helmet pads from work, and am waiting on Chucko for a leather helmet gasket. Then I should be set!

Looked like pure T plastic at first. Could swear you were holding a piece of aluminum when you were done though. Do you clear coat it once you get the right sheen on it?

Hey there, and welcome to TDH. Replied to your PM.

The armor I used was cold cast, so all it really needs is some sanding with different grits, then aluminum polish to bring it out. This was my first attempt, and as you can see, not perfect at all. But the the general gist of it is to come out looking like metal, of course! No clear coat at all after sanding, just the mag polish.

hey, i forget sometimes until it's time to put my holsters on. also, i would like it to be known that xerakon has all of his armor now, and once you put $500 of insurance on each box (everything went back in three boxes) the USPS starts taking those "Fragile" postings seriously.

Spacing. We were talking on FB but I couldn't easily link there because I was at work. So you got to see the answer to a question no one knew was asked.......lol.

We were talking about the spacing between the girth and the ab, and the spacing on the armor.

Some more pics...

As far as the strapping for non-vest pieces go, I've got two methods going on. These are temporary until I find out which works best. Also, the strapping will run through buttonholes I've cut/sewed into the legs.

First is the shin piece. I'm doing a spandex strap, glued to one end, and the other end of the strap will be buttoned.

Here's a knee. They have fixed points on each side. This isn't the most practical, but a proper fix will come with time.

Blank shoulder on the vest. Plates were original put on with velcro to get the positioning correct, then line 24 snaps were hammered on.

Here's the bottom of the shoulder plate. Velcro first, then the snaps were glued on using some... Hobby Lobby Maxi-Cure CA glue with an accelerator. Went ahead and used some clips to make myself feel better.

And the plate, once it's on. Pretty nice. The vest fabric scrunches some, making the buttons go odd, but it ended up pretty well!

Here's a boot. Leather straps were cut and glued onto the inside of the boot armor using the same method. Used Line 24 snap again It ends up looking good, but the female end on the boot is not too sturdy, to be honest. Trying to undo the snap once it's been attached pretty much pulls the whole thing off the boot, with the outside of the boot. So... I'll just leave them attached at all times, which is fine as the boot runs abit big. At the foot end of the armor, there will be velcro to hold it to the boot.

About to go out, so will post some more tomorrow.
