I just dyed mine today with Rit Dove Gray. I worried that they would come out too light, but they dyed just fine. However, when I used hot water for the dying, it softened the glue holding the sole to the heel. It really shouldn't have done that.
Shoe glue would be a quick fix, however, I'm taking mine to the cobblers anyway to get white soles without the weird wavy bottom anyway, so I'll let them fix the glue too, along with sewing on some pullup straps in the back like we see in the prepro pics.
The dying looks fine as a base, and I'll use shoe polish to make the middle part black. But then I'm going to hit the suckers with some gray primer and maybe sun fade them a little and used some artist chalk pastel powder to get that dusty look.
