What? No step by step on the rocket? Don't just leave us hanging here!
I painted the thrusters as follows;
basecoat of "Dull Aluminum" then clearcoat
mask off the scratches (just like the body)
also tape off the center circle & the little things on the sides
spray the Grey color, I use a mix of leftover grey rattle-can paints I have laying around.
here's the tricky part;
take a can of almost empty flat black rattle-can paint
step back a few feet & lighty press the button to make the black splatters.
This may take some practice, but it really helps
then I mask off the Black stripes around the bottoms of the cones
spray that with flat Black rattle-can
remove all the masking
I then paint the red dots with Tamiya Color Flat Red Acrylic
I put the thrusters on the pack & do the weathering of "Grimey Black" to blend the thrusters into the body.
For the Missile;
BaseCoat of "Dull Aluminum" then ClearCoat (notice a pattern developing here?
)
Mask off the Missile below the ring in the Middle and mask off above the base (red part)
mask off the areas you want scratched on the top of the missile
Using the red that you use on the body ( I used Wisc Central maroon)
Spray lightly on the top of the Missile & get gradually darker towards the ring.
spray a normal coat on the base
Remove the tape & masking & lightly mist the top of the Missile with Dull Aluminum to reduce the contrast between the red & silver
tape off what you don't want white, the use the liquid mask where you want scratches to show
Spray with rattle-can (or airbrush if you like) Flat white
Starting at the top of the the white part (still taped off) mist down lightly with Rattle-can "Colorplace Walnut" from Wal-mart
Then Rattle-can flat black over that , but leave some walnut showing at the bottom.
remove the tape & the masking and blend the black into the red with flat black
add extra scratches with an X-acto knife & that's it
after typing this all out, I wish i would have done some progress pics so it would be easier to understand.
