Help mounting knee darts

So I have a set of machine craft knee darts for my rotj knee pads. I've mounted them by drilling holes in the knees and using machined flathead screws on the other end. The only problem is they aren't sitting flush because the outside edge of the knee pad is slanted. Do I just dremel out the whole backing? I'm not sure how to proceed...plz help!

Yes, you need to drill them out so they aren’t “attached” to the knees, but rather run through them. I used a drill bit initially, then Dremeled the rest out for a tight fit.

Some artists supply resin blocks that sit behind the armor, and the knee launchers fasten to this. You might be able to fab something up too, but the resin ones fit like a glove! I just did mine!
