Hi, here's a quick update of my second run of vac-formed goggles.
I did a bit of revision on my former and these are Orange or as orange as I could get them!
I'd have preferred them a little darker, but the Acrylic doesn't seem to take anymore colour...
I've got another 2 done and ready to go. I think better start my own build up soon!!
Hi all,
After the priming and a good flatting I tested out my new paint gun this weekend and gave it 2 coats of silver as a ground. Then I'll get an idea for where I want the scratches and work my way out (like a Fett lid build up) with a grey next.
I got a cheap Airbrush as well as my touch-up paint gun so I shall see how I go!
I thought I'd post a quick update of the progress so far. After the silver, I applied a light coat of grey primer, some light brown on top of that. Followed by some white with masking up of areas for chips and scratches.
It's going to get one more of white then its on to the top section for maroon and grey.
Some of the chips will probably get hidden, I'll see how I feel. While it will be pretty close to the Y-Wing lid in Jedi I don't feel I have to follow the distress to the exact letter. I really like some of the chips on the edges! Looks like it's been bouncing around in a cockpit!
Instead of me using an airbrush for the red (and white) I used a touch-up gun. Just thought I'd mention it incase anyone was wondering!
Masking up and adding red (in 2-3 attempts until the colour looked right!)
Masking removed and the addition of the silver/grey band on the top.
Next up (later hopefully) I'll be breaking out my airbrush and adding matte black to the lower areas and where the buttons go.
The whole thing will of course be getting a lot of "carbon scoring" later!
Hi all,
Still following? Good!
With the yellow band done it was time to plan and mask the green.
A 50/50 mix of greens here running diagonally. Although not 100% screen perfect, it looks pretty good I think.
Next to the green (decal) logo on the right (as you wear it)
The strange thing is, and I shouldn't be surprised at this, but it's really feeling like its seen a lot of action already!
Weird, but that's the effect we're all trying for with the Fett lids too...
After a look at some reference I thought I'd get the side insignias in blue and green done...
I find it easier to slice some masking tape than buy some "go faster tape" (stripes)!
With 'em about in the right place it was time to commit with paint.
I can see why all 6 Fett lids from ESB and ROTJ are different! Trying to exactly replicate scratches and marks is time consuming!
After a moderate amount of painting it was time to add the greeblies. With some trial fitting they looked OK and didn't need too much preparation.
I did decide to epoxy the audio knob (Yamaha engine cover) to a bolt and drill the disc. This way I could avoid the blob of epoxy that appears on the real thing!
