    Dex's Y-Wing Helmet building thread

    Hi all,
I am the first one who received a very great Y-Wing Helmet from Dex.It looks perfect and I will build it in the next time.
First here are pictures in compare with my EFX ESB Luke x-wing helmet. The Y-Wing Helmet had the correct scale and I had all other parts to complete it. Many many thanks to Rich for this cool helmet.

First update! Open all holes for the circurit board and connector block.Remove some of the plastic from the visor and made 2 L-profiles for it.This profiles will later glue on the
visor.Next step are bondo and sand the helmet.

    Looking good!
I was going the similar route, to glue some aluminium strips to the visor and screw fix it on similar to the original.
You've already overtaken me on mine!

You got yourself a nice little plaque and everything, I like it! Like the paint scheme as well.
I can't seem to find the link, but I remember some guys actually started building a full size y-wing a few years back.

Ah ok, I was actually thinking about having some plaques done by him for my B-wing project, so yes, I'm the same guy on the rpf with the production made B-wing helmet
    and chest box.

Weathering looks great btw! Speaking of weathering, I have to ask, did you do any additional weathering to your X-wing helmet?

    Wow, looks better and better!
Are you planning to add the curved padding around the lower opening? On my Richie's Armor Y-Wing helmet
that was molded in and I covered it with fake leather. It was hard to wrap it and make it look even.

You definitely lucked out with that X-wing helmet. Those paint jobs were all over the place. That's probably one of the best ones I've seen.
My B-wing helmet is currently encased in rubber and half a shell of plasti-paste, so should'nt be much longer.

I'd almost forgotten about the foam padding around the opening. I'm wondering if it might be worth sculpting that piece kinda like Richie's but with the purpose of making a mold and using foam latex or something. I wish I was better at identifying or even locating these obscure found parts.

Had order foampadding and differend leather imitats yesterday and hope to can complete finish in the next 14 days or so.I had a innerhelmet (same than in the original stormtrooper and Boba Fett helmet)which was used for the original Y-Wing Helmet to but will made it like in style of a motorcycle helmet for more comfort.

    Hi Frank!
    You're welcome!
It's nice to see what they'll look like done, I hoped they would look pretty close to the original prop and yours does!

It almost looks like an official licensed item!
I'm just trying to source some leather at the moment and if I get some before you do, I'll mail you a strip.
I'm glad you fulfilled your dream and am surprised more people haven't done a sculpt (just mine and the RA) I think...

I think the foam padding is a bit reminiscent of the donuts inside vintage aviator helmets.

Nice! Looks like it will look as good inside as out!
Adding earphones/mini speakers or the odd small printed circuit board in there?

Ever going to wear it out to conventions or will it be staying safe at home?
