I couldn't take it any longer! I just had to finally put some of my stuff on!
The armor pulled the temporary shirt forward and they slid a bit (this was quickly thrown
on with duct tape for heaven sake!) but I just wanted an idea of my progress. Go easy:
Here's the VERY basic start of the helmet. The screws will be removed once the epoxy sets and then I'll fill the holes back in. It's also way long at the moment. I
am so nervous about this helmet build because there's so much to try to get perfect for the look to be just right.
It already is apparent to me that it won't be possible to get it quite as "squat" as it is in the books because of the way a human head is shaped. I'm hoping to keep the taper from the back of the neck to the front chin area to as much of a minimum as possible, though.
The epoxy held but I didn't think about it sealing in the screws too! D'oh!
Now I have to grind them off a little at a time to avoid them heating up enough to melt the plastic around them.
Let's see, 12 screw... should only take about two hours. Grr.
Well, I might try just to eliminate a little more of the taper from back to front. In the book it's pretty much straight across but that would be impossible because of the human chin. I want to cheat it as close as possible.
