    Enjoy the first few pics.
Also u can find more pics and updates on my helmet and fettster items I've made and am working on on my twitter page

That definitely looks much better that how it comes out of the box. Looking at your avatar gave me a good idea, though. One of these toy helmets might make a decent base for a Holiday Special Fett!

That looks alot better but the scrunched cheeks and wide face are still kinda odd. I did a conversion for Mando Mercs and the helmet is currently being raffled off for charity. I actually rebuilt the entire face. The end result almost has the look and feel of the TCW DeathWatch or Animated Boba. Anyone interested in seeing it, here is a link...

i was in target just the other day and i saw the helmet and almost jumped from suprise. this gave me the idea to make my own set of armor and it led me to thedentedhelmet. i was worrying how on earth i was gonna make my buy'ce without molding it or using som type of metal(i am brand new to this) so i thought id buy the hemet but its visor didnt look right and i didnt know how to mod itcould u possibly giv me som mor info on how u modified or helmet. especially the visor because its way off of a true boba design.

    your modifications look great btw

The mando, ill do my best to help u out, but I'm far from an expert. I was in your shoes not to long ago though so please don't hesitate to ask me what ever, I know trust me I know how hard and difficult this can seem at times. But do remember its all for fun so don't get to stressed just have fun with it.

I will get my step by step images up as quick as I can with as easy of discriptions as poss, and please feel free to ask questions I do try my best to respond quickly but my job has to come first so I does take me a little time .

OK guys here is the template for the faceplate I made, wile molding mine. You should be able to print it out easy enough, and using the inch marker on the center top. it should be easy to check that the final size is correct.

Its still may need a trim hear and there, If you look at the photo of mine with the sintra mounted you will note i cut the lower half of the face off and mounted them apart from the rest, mostly to make it easier for me to get things lined up right.

Please let me know if you all have questions, I will be posting more pics when time allows, but with my work I only sleep 2-4 hours a day so trust me when I say you will have to bear with me if i'm a tad slow on the updates.

OK guys I got lots of new images and lots of progress step-by-steps walk throughs of what I did so far. feel free to ask questions. as needed, the whole point of me posting this was to inspire more fettsters like myself to get out and do this kind of thing.

    # Kakarrot's Helmet Step-By-Step

1.jpg: Get a helmet! Print out Kakarrot's template.
2.jpg: Test sintra placement w/ tape first, before you perm mount it.
3.jpg: Seal joints with plastic weld. let harden at least over nite.
4.jpg: Tape off visor, vents etc. be sure your good on visor, there is no going back on that if you miss a spot and you cant really take the tape off till after paint so double check that your good! I put the helm on to see if I could see any light coming in the tape in spots i may have missed.
5.jpg: Mount sintra permanently I used super glue for this, it bonds well to the helmet and to the sintra. Just again watch the visor super glue will fog it forever if its not taped off correctly.
6.jpg: Prepping helmet for bond, Roughing up surface w/ sand paper, cleaning off oils form my skin so it will all stick well etc.
7.jpg: 3 layers of bondo and body-filler. Took 3 days apart for drying time.
8.jpg: 1 1/2 hours in of rough sanding w/ power sander.
9.jpg: 3 hours in of rough sanding w/ power sander.
10.jpg: 6 hours in rough sanding w/ power sander.
11.jpg: 7 hours in fine sanding w/ hand sander.
12.jpg: Preping rest of helmet for priming and paint, more bond, final filling low spots etc.

I want mine to be damaged and worn looking when I'm done. (The Fettman aint no princess! His helm is mangled.) So I purposely left pot marks, scratches and dents in mines face and elsewhere on the bondo and body filler.

lol wow thats good stuff man. although i will say that if u want to be carefree about the visor, have no fear, theres a group on ebay selling pretinted high quality visors on ebay. i used one on my old helmet, and i couldnt even scratch it it was so superb. and the one way tinting on her was impressive even for me.

Re: New Hasbro Boba helmet mod & template!

Ok well it may have taken most of today but I got it to a reasonable good looking helm if you ask me.

So after letting it dry all night, this morning I started the scratch and dent part of the paint or as I like to call it making it look ******.

1 lightly misted the entire thing with back, silver, copper, and a few other random colors. and i can't stress enough LIGHTLY MISTED i was like 10 feet away from the thing ok dont go overboard your just trying to add some dirt and take the shine away.

2 added some fleks of copper and off white to the mix nowhere in particular really i had the helm on a turn table so just spinning it and doting it in random places.

3 in the places where the silver goes on i sponged on flat grey.

4 went over the grey with silver.

5 now is the scary part, i went to town with sand paper, a screw driver, and some other blunt objects to wear threw the layers of paint to reveal the silver and other coats of paint underneath.

6 mind you i had the images of the real helmet from the museum with me the entire time for points of referance for the wear ant tear on the real one.

7 after i was happy with that i started with the dust and dirt layers. adding dirt and carbon scoring to the entire thing. "dirt" aka dark brown make up in about five diff colors yeah yeah i know make up on your fester helm. but its a old movie special effect i picked up from my father and dam the diff it makes is really remarkable.

8 and the really really scary part removing the tape from the visor. i ran a razor blade around the entire outer edge first, then held my breath for the reveal.

9 after all i did to the helm not a scratch on the visor at all, not paint leaked in around the edges its awsome.
here is the final image with the tape off the visor, and the funnest part is my cell phone died while finishing it up so i had to go get the other camera to take the last image.

Please feel free to ask questions the entire reason i posted was to inspire others to do it too and to find a farly simple way for other to do so

hey Kakarrot, I've been following your post, great job btw. I am not having such a good time myself. I bought a dremel tool, never used one before, and used body filler for the first time as well. Let's just say it hasn't been pretty. Needless to say I have stayed vigilant. Point being however, I wanted to remove my tape from the visor and then reapply it, but my tape is bonded to the rest of the helmet. I went a bit overboard with the body filler. Any tips on clearing the visor without damaging it with say a sanding bit like I was trying to do. I'll post pictures in a second.

Re: New Hasbro Boba helmet mod & template!

Sportshifter, DON'T remove the tape it will be impossible to properly reapply it at this stage anyhow, my advise is to start the sanding process I used a power sander or a mouse sander. And remember that the sanding process took me almost a week its a long process but your looks bad now but trust me so did mine..

If you realy want to remove some excess in the eye slot you can get in there CAREFULY with a exacto knife of razor blade to get the bulk out and sand the rest. But if u scratch the vizor underneeth in the process your kinda screwed. So be extra carefull like I said.

Remember its supose to be fun don't stress to much it will all work out in the end product. Then u can look back at this stag and laugh.

Hope that helps, feel free to ask me what ever ill do my best to help, I can't wait to see yours done.

Sportsshifter Im sorry for ringing in on this but You could unskrew it from the inside take the rubber googles of then that green face shield thing then thelower jar panels , then 4 screws and it will come of youve taped it up so the body filler wont be stuk to the visor ,

littleBird I am a member of the mercs but m not really sure their view on it, Not like I would let that stop me from enjoying it.
the dimensions have not really changed from the orig. even with the full surface redone in bondo its a very minor dif. so their the same.

dude no need to worry about visor damage. they have visors you can buy off ebay. theyre ten times more scratch and paint/mold resistant, theyre alot more durable, and the tinting is far better.

check it out on ebay. trust me. for 10 bucks, its far better.

Yes but unless you cut the helmet dowto the right size the pre cut boba vizor is not gointo fit

Penpen, sorry it took me so long to get back to your question but my day job keeps me very busy.

To answer you my template has a 1 inch bar on the top center of it that should exactly 1 inch after printing. so check that to adjust your size a little better. also the template is made to be used for the sintra and then to be bondo-ed and sanded after the fact so there is a little le-way built in to it. that is just how i designed it originally.

Again sorry for the delay. I've been working 16 hour days my job as a veterinarian keeps me pretty busy.

What kind of plastic weld stuff did you use? Also what brand of spray paint was used? I just picked up a manikin head from a beauty supply and a turn table so I can spin and paint at the same time.

Really great looking build Kakorrot! You have inspired me to give this a shot. I customized a '95 Don Post back in 2001, and had it finished with leather-lined interior and about as screen accurate ESB as a DP bucket can look, then it got left in the attic when we moved, and now looks more like a battle droid snout than a BF bucket (warped long-ways and will NOT go back to shape).

I actually got into Pepakura in order to fix it, butgot sidetracked with a Halo suit. 2 tries at BF have been less than successful. I was happy when I heard Hasbro was making a bucket, until I saw the hideous visor size. But looking at your end result, I think this is the most economic way to build a decent BF.

BTW, any chance of a new finished shot with front, back, and sides?

Sounds like fun. Still haven't gone blu-ray yet, but plan on getting the SW set when the Christmas sales start.

I picked up a Cpt Rex bucket today, and my Fett will arrive early next week, so I will have some pics to post before too long.

This post gives me great hope that I can have a decent bucket without spending hundreds of dollars. I don't have the skill or genius to be a surgeon, but this I can do. Thanks for a great thread.

    That looks amazing vod.
What materials are needed to do this?

Makes you wonder why Hasbro can't make a proper helmet for older collectors.

BTW you did a fantastic job on this.

Just thought I'd add this, because I haven't seen it anywhere. This was my collection in March. As of this week, only the middle one remains. From left to right: Rubies repaint (vinyl, basically the same as the cheapest Don Post), Mystery Helmet (some lineage to the original sculpts, 1:1), and last is the Hasbro. The size differences are astounding when you see em next to one another.

Instead of sintra is it possible to use 110lb cardstock paper?
