My budget Bucket Progress

That looks like the one I got off of ebay too. I havent started on mine yet. Mine didnt include the range finder, but it looks like the same "bad cast"!

Mine couldn't really be considered a Range Finder... more like a misc. piece of resin in the general shape of a Range Finder! lol.. I'm going to post a pic of the **** that came with it. I sculpted and sanded the RF that came with it so it doesn't look too bad.. I might make it into an ROTJ one as a spare... since my "nice" one is ESB.

Did you get an RF for it yet?

How is the sculpt on the actual bucket? Mine was not too bad! But veeeery thick in spots.

I'm going to be doing ESB colours... so any advice is welcome!

If your going ESB bud... the right ear parts as nice as they are (y) are too dark? need to be allot lighter...
Do you have all the templates for damage downloaded or are you going to wing it?
Actually, if anything, the colours on the ears are too light (from the pics I've seen).. my camera flash makes everything look darker.

I'm not going to use actual templates, but I'm a fairly good illustrator and have a mechanical pencil to draw the outline of all the damage before I use the Latex Masking Fluid. As long as the fluid doesn't give me a hard time coming off, it should look really good!

To light? ok... take some pics in natural light?
the masking process is almost what i did mark the damage out first then mask then paint... can't wait to see your progress bud.

It's pretty tricky... my camera as a "natural light" setting... but it almost always comes out blurry. I'll do my best.... I may mist it with a lighter colour if it looks too dark when the other colours are done (they're veeery easily removable).

Any suggestions about the visor area? Along the insides, on the vertical section, it's really thick... it doesn't have the nice indents where the visor should rest in place. Will welding mask material be flexible enough to bend into shape?

Anybody interested in seeing how bad the cast of the pieces that came with this helmet are? Do these even qualify as "recasts"? They look like somebody, who had a little bit of sculpting experience, sculpted these out of a brick of plastic with a general memory of the shape of them!

Try taking the pic during the day (sorry if sounding pedantic bro) :p
sometimes internal light really throws off the colours?

here is a pic from the real deal that kinda explains where I'm coming from seeing yours?

Hehe, sadly your ear pieces look better than mine. The top 2 pieces of my RF ear are not even usuable, I even lost the cap already.

Are you using a size 0 rush to apply? cannot see why it is hard? maybe 'we' can help? (without being there )
What I'm finding hard is that the silver paint does not take pencil lead too well.. so it's hard to outline the areas with detail. I'm getting there, but it's very time intensive.
I'm using a Games Workshop Tank Brush (pretty big) for the larger areas and a small detail brush for the small parts.
Doesn't help that I bought the non-coloured masking fluid insead of the one that's tinted green... you can't see it unless you shine the light just right.

It's all good... I'm just being impatient... I'll take my time tomorrow.

That is a feat unto itself! You see how warped my earcap is!
I'm keeping them purely as a trophy... but if you think you could use them, I'd be happy to send them to you.

Yeah, thanks brother.
I was at Dell for almost 2 years and they closed my group (Quality) and laid us all off!
So next time you think about buying a Dell... remember: They have no interest in Quality Assurance! :)

Thanks for the kudos about the helmet!
I have a rebel tattoo also (albiet quite a bit smaller).... not sure how well that goes over in this group lol... (The skull tattoo is a veeery good idea though!... somebody should design a standard DH skull tattoo! So we can have a link set in ink!.... whoah! deeeeep!)

a little off topic here, but my next two tattoos are going to be the mythosaur skull and the wheat circle. as for placement, the will be on the left shoulder, and the will be on the right side of my chest.

my mom thinks i'm crazy lol. She said i was "young and stupid like my father" for getting a tattoo. on the other side of things, dad thinks its awesome

Hiya folks!

It's been a few days since I've posted some new pictures, but I took a rest for my eyes!

I've done some serious painting and here's some new progress pics!
The Keyhole area needs to be cleaned upsince the masking fluid actually pulled up some of the Bondo along with the paint! lol

Also... notice there was some accidental mist of darker green on the dome.. I got a little careless and rushed... that will be fixed tomorrow.

Lot's of detail needs to be finished before any weathering is done... on the back areas.... I masked off the a bigger area with the intention of adding the inner damage.

The Red looks very orange because of the lighting but It looks much more accurate in person.

Still a ways away from being finished... but looking more like a quality bucket than a budget one :)

Here's the part I'm having major trouble with... the inside visor area.
I really want to file it down so it's got the proper groove for the visor to fit into it.
