GONK is underway!

I think I see what you mean. Get rid of the part where it would normally sit on a table by making it flush with the sides.

My GONK now has, uh... what I guess could be considered, a face?:

Awesome progress! I plan on doing one of these someday, but have sworn to finish my R2 before taking on any other major projects. Someday I hope to have BOTH droids to display. <sigh>

Thanks Shackman.

Progress has been slow lately because of work and my dremel died on me also. I'm borrowing one tonight to cut the hole for the face, though.

I'm going to pick up some epoxy resin this weekend and fill the exposed lip you can see around the top bin after I thread and seal some bolts through it at the corners and sides. These will thread through the bottom bin lip and then nut together. I like the idea of having him still able to come apart if I need him to.

Ok. Teensy problem.

I bought some resin today and mixed up some to fill the bin lip. I mixed it on the "cooler" side so it wouldn't warp.
Everything went perfectly for a while but when it cooled completely, it released and pulled away from the edges.
Now I basically have solid resin positive copies of the lip. LOL!

I think all I need to do is superglue them back into the lip and everything will be cool.

Live and learn. Doh.

Ok, did some quick sanding to see what I have to work with and all in all, I think it's not too bad. A couple big gaps, a few smaller ones, and an over all minor skin coat of bondo and it will be good.

GREAT job on that so far, bro!!! I love it! I'm definitely gonna be building one of these in the future. What did you cut out the "E" greeb from? Foam board?
Keep us posted...(y)

I just wanted to keep you updated on this.

I have really been busy at work and getting ready for the baby to come so I have not had any time to do more on my droid. I may have to take a break until the end of the year at least so there may not be any progress made for a while.

You guys will be kept up to date, though.

Do you mean to make it a functioning droid that moves around? If so I am here to help! I have built two 180Lb. robots with some friends before!

Gator: I plan on making it a static prop but ALSO so my soon-to-be-born son might eventually be able to wear with an interchangeable "face" and wearable legs.

Well, I got to do a (very) little bit of work on ol' trash-can bot this weekend.
The middle ledge top is all leveled out and ready for the trim to go on.

Just a little update on a slowed-down project. :)

I feel a bit like Doc Frankenstein by reanimating this old thread but I wanted to show that I filled the top lip of the upper tote filled and ready for the panel to cover the seam between the totes. I plan on only attaching the panel to the upper tote so when unscrewed from the bottom, they can still be separated.

As soon as Spring gets here, I can get him back outside to do the leg assembly. (Not allowed to do any major sanding in the house, you know ;))
