In an recent interview with the New York Times, George Lucas was promoting his "Red Tails" movie, when he announced his upcoming retirement from the Hollywood business. He will make one final "Indiana Jones" movie, and afterwards, he will retire from making movies & move away from the Hollywood business. (And no, he will not be making anymore new Star Wars movies.)
The new upcoming re-release of all 6 Star Wars episodes in 3-D may be the last time that all of the 6 Star Wars episodes will be shown in the theatres. (This may be it folks, so enjoy it while it still lasts.)
There's no word yet if Lucas will decide to close up shop on ILM or the Skywalker Ranch when he retires, or if someone else will take over the Star Wars & Indiana Jones franchise. (Or if the Star Wars & Indiana Jones saga will also end completely upon on his retirement.)
All I can say is, thank you, George Lucas for giving us Star Wars and Indiana Jones.
