Here's a few Perspective shots to give you an idea of how far the Flash Tube sticks out of the barrel.

If you look at this pic you can see the Scope Mounting Brackets are solid so I think it is good you made yours solid.

Here is a great shot of the barrel length

I hope these help to make the determination as to how far the barrel will stick out.

Very cool. Thanks. I will be able to determine that with Autocad. Thanks Eddie.

I scaled some pics that I had in CAD and it appears to be between 4 5/8" and 4 3/4"...or so.

Ugh. I didn't realize I was missing a part. I need to get a hold of one of these so I can mold it. Does anyone have one that I can buy or borrow that is okay with me molding it?

HEEEELLLLLLPPPPP! I want to finish this project!

That is part #65 (Connecting Rod) from the Revell Visable V8 Model Kit. The model has been a large part of the Greeblie world as far as Star Wars is Concerned. This particular part is visable on the EE3 right above the Trigger Assembly as shown in this picture:

Hopefully we can find someone that has one of these for John to mold for the gun to avoid any further delay. So come on peeps! Pull your resources and lets help get this together!

    Hello

Here is a drawing I did to show the comparison in 3D.

The flash tube extends out 6".

    Hope this helps.

    Actually that IS the model!
It has been re released several times over the years.
All the parts have stayed the same for the most part except a few parts that have changed since the 1977 model.
This one however should have the part your looking for.

Okay, here's the latest. These pictures are bad. I used the flash and it created some artifacts that aren't necessarily there. Anyway, What do you think?

Hold off on the 5 1/2". I just found out that the barrel clamp goes around the Flash tube. So it looks like more of the Flash tube is exposed.

I'll have to adjust the drawings and get the new dimension.

The clamp in the picture doesn't look like it goes around the flash tube....

I have revised the post above with a new image and a 6" dim for the flashtube extension.

I got a post over on the RPF from Chris Trevas from the The Parts of Star WarsThe clamp fit right up against the front of the barrel making it difficult to separate the two.

What is the length barrel on your master?

The real tube is more than 6" so when I mold it, I will mold it for 6" long. Thanks very much. You caught me just in time.

Actually, if you read through this thread:
    http://forums.thedentedhelmet.com/showthread.php?t=4965
You will find that the agreed upon consensus is that the placement of the clamps versus the length of the barrel does not match up and that the scope Has to be mounted to the Flash Tube.
THere is some debate as to whether the front mounting bracket was positioned that way for asthetic reasons or because it further helped to secure the flash tube into place.

Bottom line... Front Bracket connected to flash tube.
