I am also a newbie, I would suggest reading through everyone builds and decide which Boba you want to do and then check your budget.
These threads are great, lots of helpful people, search first and if you can't find the info, you are then welcome to ask. and go through the helmet builds.

Do you buy most of the different parts of your armor or do you mostly make the parts yourself?

I have bought a lot of my armor that I want to be screen accurate. I have made armor for custom mandos. For me it is all about precision. I can make armor well enough for a generic character but if I want screen accurate then I pay for the expertise of some of the artists here on TDH.
You can definitely make things. If you can sew, work leather and such (or willing to learn to do those things) you can get a long way.

Welcome. Patience is key. Unless someone is selling a completed part of the build. Items will take time to mold, paint, weather etc. Expect months to build. It is not something that is going to happen overnight, so you will have lots of time to research and save up some $$ when the time comes to pull the trigger on parts.

Agreed. Patience is required. Began my own build at the end of August. I'm about 2/3 done with just the gathering part. Have recently decided that I wanted a different Helmet -that set me back a little but I think it will be worth it. Best of luck with your own build!
