Hey guys, ive been getting alot of questions about how i mount the thrusters on my MOW pack builds. So i decided to post this thread showing how i do it. Certainly not the only way to do it, but i hope this can help some of you guys out.
So, i was using a piece of ABS sheet mounted on the inside of the pack to attach the thruster too via magnets, but have since changed to this method which i like much better.
I had some leftover PVC pipe from other projects and decided to make a piece thet you can attach the thruster too via a threaded rod and butterfly nut.
i took piece of PVC that the thruster fit into. The pipe i had was, i believe, 1" i had to use the dremel sanding barrel to take just a bit off the thruster mount to get it to fit into the pipe.
then i took a piece of another larger pipe, (1.25" i think) to set the first pipe into to create an edge to help set the pipe in place in the pack:
The entire unit only need to be a little deeper than the part of the thruster that will be in the pipe. If you mAke it too long, you wont be able to get the wingnut onto the rod, or you may not be able to get the thruster all the way in. Its a tight fit, so keep that in mind when making these. My bad for not measuring the depth i made these.
You can make the "set edge" a little larger if you choose to, but just not too much or your thruster will be extended too far out.
I added an L bracket (which is also the screw holding the 2 pipes together) for stability and covered the end that would face inside the pack with a piece of ABS sheet.
I later drilled a 3/8" hole in the middle of the ABS section on the PVC unit.
Then i epoxied the piece in place inside the pack. Keep in mind this should fit tightly in the hole in MOW's pack but it wont be stable until your epoxy sets. After the epoxy set, i also put a bunch of hotglue on it for further strengthening. If you can add a screw into the L bracket, do it. Just remember to use a shallow screw and be careful not to have it come out of the other side! I also thought about using more resin, or fiberglass to further secure the unit, but didnt have any on hand, so hotglue is what i used.
On the thruster end, i drilled a hole 3/8" and threaded about 1.5" worth of a 3/8" threaded rod into the thruster (with superglue in the hole) to create this:
i also added large washers and the wing nut. The large washer is the way to go as it presses evenly along the edges of the pipe rather than just pulling on the ABS sheet glued to it. If you use a small washer, it will eventually pull through if you over tighten.

Obviously, repeat for the other side
Keep in mind this is a very tight fit, so you have to do some twisting of the thruster to get the wingnut started on the rod, but once attached it is secure.
