Shameless Webley No1 info seeking thread

I'm helping my mother-in-law sell some firearms and ammo from a family estate and one item has proven a little difficult to get good info on.
I've found more references to the Webley as being used in Boba Fett appreciation than in any other context so I thought I'd try and get some free advice (I did mention in the title this was shameless).

To those of you who used a Webley as the foundation for your blaster build was there a particular site you used to obtain it?
Any advice on the going rate for a numbers-matching functioning example would be much appreciated. The estate is in the red and I'm trying hard to minimize losses.

Moderators, If this is completely innapropriate, banworthy material then I understand booting me out....I had to try

    Thanks,
    John

Just gotta get lucky and find one in time. They get pretty expensive $600+ easily hence why we have resin kit versions out there.

If it is indeed a Webley No1 Mk1 Flare Gun, it is fairly rare. Almost all of these flare guns are still matching in number (I actually have yet to see an example that isn't), so that wont add any to the value of the flare gun itself. Based on its condition, they usually go anywhere from $800 to $1,500. If you're looking for a place to sell it, may I recommend Gunbroker.com, which is a firearms auction site. As its a flaregun, most states do not consider it a firearm, and as such, it most likely wont have to be sent to a FFL Dealer to be transferred to the buyer, and can be mailed directly via UPS or FedEx. Just be sure to have the buyer check their state laws regarding Flare guns before the sale.

Just out of curiosity, Any German Mauser's (K98k's) in that estate sale?

Thanks for the help guys. I really had no clue where to start.

As for the Mauser question, I'm afraid not. There is a pre-ban Norinko SKS with bayonet and an old "Kongsberg Colt" 1911 but no Mausers.

Yeah. Post up how much you want for it and you will have more buyers than you know what to do with.

Honestly, if the normal range is $800 to $1500 I'd be happy with $1000 to avoid dealing with an auction site. I'll post pics tomorrow.
I think I'm still a couple of posts short of being able to list it for sale here though.

I hadn't posted pics because I found something that made me a little concerned that it may not have been real. On the stock there is a stamp that says "Federal Laboratories Inc. Pittsburgh, Penna." turns out that just means that it was likely converted into a tear gas gun in the 1920s which is also why this one is chromed "nickeled" rather than matt. I'll post pics tomorrow.

Yeah, After WWI ended the British had a surplus of these, and in turn sold a bunch of them to the Feds. The Feds then scrubbed the Webley & Scott No1 Mk1 markings off the left side of the receivers and chrome/nickel plated the whole gun, brass grip & all, for use in riot control, etc etc. It should still be chambered for 37mm shells though. These chrome "FBI" examples are usually worth a little less than what the true un-bubba'd pieces go for, but you're asking price is still more than reasonable.

Some other things I was able to find.....

Apparently this launcher design was the first type of US Commercial Gas Gun offered.

Also the first chemical agent cartridges offered with these guns were simply modified WW1 Surplus Live 38MM Flare Cartridges, that Federal pulled the pyrotechnic flare composition from and reloaded with a CN Burning Gas Agent.

    Pretty interesting stuff.

If these came up more often I would have one put on my licence and import one.
Shame that there is not a more regular supply.

The import thing is a pain. Marv has been trying to figure out a way of getting mine to the UK and is struggling. If you have some tips I'm sure he'd appreciate it.

If he were in the US he would probably have been posting pics of his new toy a week ago.

It's only a matter of time before I have to move on and officially put mine up for sale to US folks only which would be a shame given that he was the first person to send me an offer.

Import to the uk is not a problem if you have a space for one on your firearms licence. However for me the lack of availability means that I see no point in adding one to my licence as I would probably need to renew my licence before I found a webley.
Any decent firearms dealer should be able to import and de-activate but for me personally that would be the same a importing a rare ferrari and then cutting holes in the body work.
