New flightsuit / flak jacket - let me know what you think!

Hello all!

Just sewed together my first ROTJ flightsuit / flak jacket with the help of a friend. I would love it if you guys could let me know what you all think! I love critique, so don't hesitate to let me what's wrong with them :)

I tried to match the color as best as I could, but from what I could tell it's a very debatable subject to what the flightsuits actual color is. (Light gray, slight cream, or light grayish blue). The color of the material I chose is light grayish with a subtle hue of blue that shows in certain lighting.

I know the flak jacket isn't 100% accurate, as the material isn't the shiny light gray tackle twill. Also I realized that I might've made too many ribs for the shoulders. Regardless I still think it's still pretty decent.

Thanks!

the ROTJ is light grey, the ESB is light grey-blue so you need a grey color .. in your first 6 photos seems you have an ESB flight suit !!
however i like the quality of the stitching , but im not an expert :/

Good job on the flightsuit. I honestly think the color looks like a solid rotj light gray and not an esb blue-gray. I think the lighting makes it look darker than it actually is in the first few photos. Nice stitching.

Looks great man! Quality work! I thought it was pretty gray the last photos of the flight suit show a blue tinge. either way I think that looks amazing! Did you use a pattern for the flight suit? Very impressive!

Thanks for the compliments guys! :)

Like I said, there is some slight hint of blue in the jumpsuit, but I believe it's the natural sunlight that brings it out. It's a bit strange because in person you really don't see it like that, only through photos. The close up pictures which show the stitching work, where it looks like a simple white gray is what it really looks like in person mostly.

However I do believe even the original ROTJ had a slight hue of blue in the flightsuit, which was also only visible outside in the sun during the sarlaac scenes (especially at the sleeves)

Regardless I'm pretty happy with the color of the flightsuit, I'll throw some pictures up of it inside as well. Since I have also added some weathering to the suit as well :)

We didn't use any specific pattern for the flightsuit itself, we just based it off a bunch of reference pictures. My friend was really the one that helped out a ton as he has quite a bit of experience in tailoring work. We had to go through quite a bit of trial and error but I think we got it down nicely.

Flightsuit looks great, nice weathering - Colours of the flight suit can be a contentious issue..... I've always been of the belief that the ROTJ suit is just a faded version of the ESB. Lots of time in the Tatooine sun ;-) I think it looks good.
The only thing I've noticed is the neck seal on your flakvest fixes from the back, I think this needs to fix at the front to be accurate.

Great job and nice fit though (y)

Nice, looks great. That is cool that the neck seal is built in. I do understand you are not going for screen accuracy, but Daft is right.

Also, needs more dirt!

Looks great to me.

May I ask if sewing is a skill you already had, or if you learned it on the fly. I'm thinking about getting a sewing machine to help with my own Boba Fett costume.

Daft: Thanks! And that's what I'm saying too :) In Jabbas palace it looks light gray, just like the fabric I chose when indoors. Outside, given the right angle and lighting you will slightly get a small hint of blue. With further weathering it's even harder to notice, but it's still there. Obviously I don't want it as blue as the esb, but with added weathering I think it's pretty spot on. Just my 2 cents!

Deriak: Thats true, and if I'm right they're attached by hooks in the front. And the neck seal was originally built into the jumpsuit itself, right? Well anyway my next project will be to make an accurate flak vest / neck seal.

Badgerdash: I had some basic sewing skills before I jumped into this project, however I think it would've taken 5x as long if my friend wouldn't have showed me so many things. He also helped with figuring out how to size it so it would fit properly, as well as sew on the sleeves/arm part since I had a pretty rough time with those, along with a few other things. The best advice I can give you is don't rush it!

Hey, do you have any patterns? Also, where did you get the material and what did you use?

I'm trying to make a "semi-accurate" ROTJ Boba for my son (13) but do it as cheaply as possible. Sewing a suit has to be less than buying on for $200-$300.

Any by help is appreciated and great job on the suit!
