General Help on Gauntlets

I purchased these gauntlets from ebay about 5 years ago when I was going "full-bore" on my Boba ESB build. I was disappointed when they arrived as there was so much fiberglass, it just doesn't look pretty. Before I hunt down some coldcast gauntlets for my ESB build (by the way if anyone has any recommendations, please let me know - other than Bobamaker - great stuff, just extra shipping costs); I would like to think I might be able to shape or mold these into something useable. My concern, however is the size of them. I haven't really looked at any photos from anyone that I might be able to compare them to, but when I place them near my arm, they are just way to big to me.
Has anyone run into this before? Anyone tried to "fix" a pair they purchased on ebay before realizing how not so smart of an idea it was? Anyone have any sizing references or recommendations I could follow? Thanks.

I can't tell much from the pics, but sizing can remedy much with the fit.
have they been cleaned up, excess removed and edges evened out? There should be some extra space when assembled.
Your flight suit and glove ends have to go in them, and any still use foam to take up the remainder of the space and have them stay put. Hard to have these fit perfect with so many different size folks out there.
Assuming you would hinge these with both parts glass. There are some good tutorials for doing hinge type openings, and I'd recommend Cruzer's tutorial on a pair of his Jango gaunts.

But if you are looking to buy, Fettprides gauntlets are the nicest... Period. Gotta wait for them but man oh man.
id say try to clean these up first. Do they have greebs? The area for the rocket looks pretty small, but itay just be the pic.

They have nothing in terms of greebs, although there is the "dental" piece on one. Perhaps I should take a reference photo for the sizes. They just appear tall. Your suggestion for removing the excesses is a good idea that I just haven't done yet.

I picked up a pair of what were described as "starter gauntlets" a few months ago in the cargo hold. They're ABS. They appeared to be ROTJ gauntlets painted in ESB colours. I've since removed all the parts, sanded them down and have applied my first layer of silver paint. With a little TLC, some paint and a few extra parts (I ordered an MQ-1 replica keypad), they will definitely be usable until I can afford to upgrade and get something like Fettpride's gaunts. I'd guess that you could make these look pretty decent for the timing being, especially if you have other parts to acquire. I'll be posting my progress soon in my build thread. They're not going to crazy movie accurate, but they'll be a lot better when I'm done.

Here are a couple other photos with the pieces inverted. Even the shape seems wrong. I think I might try to shape them and see if they will work, but I already know it will take quite a bit to complete. Is there a tutorial anyone recommends?

The parts do look a little off. I'd worry more about them being too small than too big though. Get them cleaned up where you can try both halves on and take some pics....tape them to hold them together for now.

This. I'm looking into getting a set of FP's ESB gauntlets myself. Highly recommend his work.
The ones you have already don't look too bad from the photos. Best of luck with the build!

I had reached out to FP, just patiently waiting to hear from him. I was looking at some photos on the new website (great job on that!), found a solid thread with a tape measure being used as a reference. I'm thinking that the ones I purchased online in the photos are quite off. It just confirms what I already knew. But I thank everyone for the input. Not sure what I will do with them as I can't imagine throwing them away, that would be unforgivable!

One last question for the group regarding these Gauntlets. They are ROTJ (sold that way), but is this due to the accessories only or is there a design difference? I am making an ESB Boba and I am looking to se e if I can make these work on an ESB build.I am not sure what the fundamental differences are between the ROTJ and ESB gauntlets besides color and accessories that are attached.

Only major difference is the flamethrower unit and the whipcord housing. You can convert the ROTJ whipcord into an ESB, but not vice versa. The flamethrower is very different between the two. Hard part now will be finding someone that makes the ESB flamethrower to sell separately. Maybe you could fabricate one though.
