Haribon72's Fabric Dye Project: ESB MOW Flight Suit

Hello Everyone,

I want to know your thoughts and feedback on my fabric dye project for a ESB MOW flight suit. After reading all the talk threads and tips here on TDH, I decided to give it a try.

The whole step by step process can be found here (56 pictures):
https://plus.google.com/u/0/photos/107611232966841542690/albums/6075035800580584385

Here are some end result samples. I will post pictures of the entire flight suit after it completes its hang drying.
On the left is my MOW fabric dye project. On the right is BobaMaker's spats (as is from the maker himself). I used BobaMaker's flight suit as my color palette.
After the fabric dye was complete, I put the entire flight suit into the washer using cold water. After one wash, I gave everything a hang dry.
The pouches and spats were the first ones to dry this morning (hang dry overnight).

I'm using my best camera to take accurate pictures and best lighting. From far away, it appears to be grayish blue. Up close, it appears to be more grey with blue tint.

The funny part about this project was that I kept thinking about Lando Calrissian's cape and shirt. When the flight suit was under going the dye process, it looked like he's cape. LOL!

Think it looks really good man. Looks like you've nailed it. Spats with ESB is a terrible thing. Don't give in to the ROTJ look.....

Thanks Brandon! I borrowed them for the color reference only.:D

Thanks Syllander! I'm definitely working on the ESB look. Feels good to know I'm working towards the right direction on fabric dye!

Here are the pictures of the finished project after one day of hang drying. My wife and I are happy with the results. Please let us know what you think. If the color is acceptable, I will post the fabric dye recipe here. Thank you! Please excuse the shadowing in some of the pictures. Our living room lights had created shadows while taking pictures this morning.

Haribon72. Awesome Post. I'm thinking of getting the Man of War 2 piece suit as well. I just think it will be much easier to use the restroom in a hurry. As for the sizing of the suit I am torn between the Medium and Large. The Medium measurements appear to fit me better. I am 5'07 and 190lbs. What size did you go with and did it big or small? Where tailor modifications needed? Thanks

Hello TAguirre, We got a double XXL flightsuit from Man of War. It still is hanging in my closet (never worn) and might be up for sale next month. No tailor modifications. It fit the costumer but he decided to get a custom one made from another vendor. He was worried that this one might be tight later on for him. So yeah, I might just put up for $200.00 on the sale board next month to get my money back. The dye was a great project and learning experience.

Okay. Thanks for the info. XXL would seem to big and I would have concern for the length. But project come out looking good.

Hello JTTM80, I mixed both dyes together (evening blue and pearl grey together).

Haribon, did you use equal parts? In your pictures you have a cup of powder. What is that you added? I just picked up a medium MOW suit and going to give a crack at this project. Thanks

Bro.... that as one cup of salt. Salt helps the dyeing process.

I used more blue and than grey. Start with 75% blue and 25% grey.

Lol. I went out to pick up the dye. I read the directions and duh. Salt. It all makes sense now. Thanks for your help and info.
