The rocket-looking thingy is actually a multi-phase blaster that has a refractor module in the cone that disperses, amplifies and separates the energy blast into what appears as a single beam but is actually 2 dozen or more smaller concurrent beams traveling along the same axis. The purpose of this is obvious, at a distance a blaster configured like this act should behave similarly to a shotgun, so to say, and therefore as targets are farther away, theoretically as when Luke Skywalker was jumping away from Boba to the nearby Skiff in ROTJ, just before he was piked by Han, Boba's accuracy should have increased rather than decreased. It is a shame that every time Boba was doing battle, he failed in most (or all) efforts dismally. Read on...
in SW AOTC, the first display of Boba's killing powers and ruthless ability...we see young Boba try to kill Kenobi with Slave I's blaster cannons, missing a direct hit (but close, albeit), and therefore allowing Kenobi to sidekick Clone Father Jango off the platform shortly after missing a good shot...with blaster cannons! (Luckily Jango's cord was wrapped up around Kenobi, or he would have taken a swim).
Synopsis: Boba fires ship-board cannons at Kenobi, fails to kill him.
In SW ANH-SE, he appears with Jabba, but is wearing ROTJ armor and red gauntlets. No action.
Synopsis: He stands, he walks, he fires no weapon at all.
In SW ESB, Boba starts by disrespecting Darth Vader in front of his own troops and gets away with it (bold I must say). Later, Boba fires a couple of shots with his Webley V.1 at Luke in Bespin, misses, then scampers off. Boba then takes Han away in his ship (but does not help carry the cargo).
Synopsis: He fires weapon in one scene, misses target. Retreats. Takes Solo away after stormtroopers capture and torture him.
In SW ROTJ, Boba flies to attack Luke, is disarmed instantly and has his Blaster bisected, then tries to wrap Luke in whip cord from his gaunt, it is sliced immediately, then a collateral blast from 2nd skiff, Boba falls on his face. A dazed Boba shakes his head, then gets up,
HERE IS THE GOOD STUFF...
and slooooowly raises his left gauntlet to fire the multi-phase blaster (rocket looking thingy) to only miss all attempts by firing 2-3 meters above Luke's head, then by chance, a blind Han Solo who is positioned behind him and backwards to Fett, accidentally pikes his jet pack in the center (not in either of the fuel tanks though), therefore causing it to deploy thrust wildly...though I would foresee a fuel leak more so. Metal sticks generally do not start jets/rockets by blunt pressure, spiking or jabbing...I would imagine a more sophisticated ignition and control system with safety features to protect from accidental start-up.
Synopsis: He does fly and that is cool. Though he is disarmed immediately as his primary weapon is destroyed. He does attempt to constrain opponent with whip cord, but is cut immediately and is knocked down by collateral explosion. Recovers, fires secondary weapon, misses target. Killed by accidental spiking and launching of jet pack into Sarlacc Pit.
Otherwise the true purpose of the rocket-looking thingy multi-phase blaster is to make sure to get one made from lathed aluminum or one that is made from clutch alignment tool components at costplustools.com.
Oh, and by the way, despite the flaws in Boba Fett's abilities or performance in all films, he is the coolest!

By the way, isn't that 'boxed flamethrower' on the left gauntlet the same one that Fett fires lasers from during the Sarlaac Fight in RotJ? Or since it has two barrels is one a laser and one a flame thrower?
