The New Girl

Zam and Jango

New Hunter
Hi All,

I'm brand-spanking new & I need all the help I can get. My boyfriend and I are about to start on a new project: my Zam Wesell costume.

I'd like to start w/ the bodysuit. Any tips/advice on material purchasing, etc. would be much appreciated. One of my major concerns is matching the maroon-like color. Everyone seems to go w/ purple.

I'll be attending the LA, CA. showing of "Dressing a Galaxy," and I'll be takin' pictures! (the exhibit at the FIDM that showcases Star Wars costumes.)

I can't wait to join into your discussions.

Welcome aboard,

My wife and I are on the same journey, thanks to some great help from Moncal and Judz Dwedd. We are in Melbourne Australia, and working on the first Zam into the TAG 501st here. These guys have so much to offer. If you go back through the forum you can learn so much.

Look forward to seeing your progress.

Cheers

Imperial Symbol

Thanks for the welcome,

On a more important note, my boyfriend would be bouncing up and down right now if he saw your car. He has a red symbol on the back of his truck.

One of the funniest moments, was driving home from the beach and seeing a similar truck w/ the Imp symbol on it's side window. John honked and pointed to his sticker and the driver smiled and flashed us his Imperial TATTOO on his arm! eeek! It was so hilarious. That guy is obviously way cooler than us.

I'll be shopping around for material w/in the next month. It's a much more difficult process than one would think. I'd like to check out the area before inevitably searching online.

Again, if anyone has [more] successfully matched the maroon color of Zam's jumpsuit: a. awesome b. let me know and c. gimme pictures!

Over & Out,
:zam -Jacq.

Welcome to TDH! :D

All I can suggest on the costume is to go through all the old posts on the various parts of the costume and learn from our mistakes! :) I must have printed out most of the posts by now for my reference.

Zam I Am might be making another run of custom made material - if that goes ahead, that is definately the way to go! There isn't much out there in retail land that is close! She organized the first run a couple years ago and it came out really...really close! Now that we've seen the original at FIDM, I think this second run will be better!

DustinCropsBoy has a Zam reference CD that is invaluable in making the costume. Contact him about getting a copy. ZIA and I are working on a second reference CD, though I don't think we'll have as many pics as DCB did on his... We'll have to see.

For expert advice on making the costume - Zam I am and MonCal are THE experts!!

Good luck, keep asking questions and keep us posted on your progress!

Home Sweet Home

MaulMas,

Thanks for all the great advice! I'll definately have to sit down and skim through the posts and do exactly that: print out the much needed stuff.

By "fabric run," do you mean purchasing in bulk and distributing to the masses? Nice. Anything that can save me time is worth much money. And anything that can save me time AND looks decent, even better. I might just have to promise you a kidney or something.

Slave1 Pilot,

I live in "The OC." You know....that show on that channel.

hehe...It's south of LA.

Talk at-cha soon.

PS- So teeny tiny update: John & I went into a Payless during our school break, just on the off-chance that they might have some boots I could work on. Turns out this is the PERFECT time of year to start shopping.

What do you guys think about this: I figure I only need a basic "base" to work on, meaning the fabrics, color etc. of the boots doesn't matter much since fabric/material will be laid over it. Platform soles are "in" right now, which works wonderfully for the costume. I couldn't have planned this better if I tried.

Did everyone buy boots to work off of or did any of you make them from scratch?

As best we can tell... they were Pradas. At least the sole was manufactured by the same company that makes the Prada boots.

One of Several Boot Threads: http://www.thedentedhelmet.com/showthread.php?t=3455

I got mine off of eBay but they were pricey. It just about killed me to cut out the little Prada stamp on the back and color the red stripe! I've deglazed them and now I need to paint them brown (I forgot to buy the brown paint when I bought the rest of the paint/dye... *duh* ) So, it's gonna wait till I buy some more dye for the holster leather.

I just found an article about covering shoes with fabric/leather to "re-do" them. I assume the principle is the same for boots - so I'm gonna try that method for the back piece and top pieces.

Welcome aboard and good luck! We will help the best we can :) Like MaulMaus said, read through the old posts. If there might be some important pics not working, I will be willing to dig through mine and repost them. Others might too.

yakcam, I am getting closer ;) I burned up another dremel today :facepalm

That is a great idea... good luck with your project!! I'll have to start working on my wife :-)

Post some pics with your progress. Does your BF have his jango done? We're in the OC too. Are you near Irvine?

Hi There,

Thanks for the welcome.

Yes, we're in Fountain Valley near Huntington Beach.

John doesn't have a Jango yet, no, but it is the next project on the list. He has a completed Boba & a set of Stormtrooper armor. We "broke in" Boba at Episode III, but we pretty much *BROKE* him at Halloween this year. haha. It's such a great starter costume because it's very make-shift & pretty much the more thrown-together, the better, but it also leaves room for error. Jango will be much more precise.

He wanted to make a Clone Trooper before Jango & I just told him to do whatever he wants, but if we go to a convention & I'm dressed as Zam, I get to flirt w/ any & every Jango there is w/o a peep from him. I think that got his attention.

I'll see if I can get some good pictures of him in both his costumes.

My costume so far is composed of a dream & a tear. hehe. I've got nothin', but I'm waiting on ZamIAm & her fabric order before I start. I'd like to see where that is going.

Talk at'cha soon.

Because you work so well under pressure! ;) *teasing*

Zam & Jango: I wouldn't wait for that... it may take awhile, even once ZIA gets enough people to make a fabric run. There are plenty of parts to work on that don't require an exact color match to the suit!

Fabric

Maulmas,

Thanks for the advice. I'm also on the look-out for helmet parts, but that's more John's place. He's been Ebay shopping. We keep getting out-bid on the most random like 2 dollar items. Strange.

ZamIAm,

No pressure! Those faces were so sad. hehe I certainly appreciate the offer & if it falls through, no worries.

Thanks all,

:zam -Jacq.

LOL Maulmaus knows me all too well... Seriously, focus on other pieces too. Baseing everything off the fabric really isn't the thing to do, cause there are TONS of things that aren't based off of the fabric.

Well, I have been (on and off) working on zam parts for like the past 9 months, but stupid life gets in the way! but I made all the little parts, greeblies to some, got the shin-guard pieces mostly done, a little blaster work, a little gaunt work..and I have not even got anything for a suit yet. I guess I am saying I am slow!, but there are plenty of things to do! I never post on here, but read through the old posts, I got the reference CD, I recomend both. I also got the standee, it helps.. and its cool! So good luck, but I found out just work on something when you can, the suit you will figure out when that time comes! Thats all I got!
