Stylized turned to Accurate Pre Pro 2 slow build

Once again, the RKD set comes with shoulders as well. Since I ordered the clean ( undentes kit) it will be vastly easier to do my own dents. So I may even end up doing the shoulders over again.
The way I see it, the more I do them the better I will get.

Did I mention this was a slow build? Ok back with some pictures. I have been working on the yellow left gauntlet. This is a Man of War gauntlet (esb style, since he didn't make the pre pro 2 anymore) that I have converted to PP2.

Just some shots of the base painted gauntlet ( no weathering yet, but I will shade and airbrush it to enhance it a bit). It's based in Duplicolor silver and then once all the chipping was masked with Humbrol Maskol, I sprayed Tamiya Camel Yellow from a rattlecan on it.
I removed the liquid masking with a scotchbright pad( bc im impatient, its easy to just rub the entire thing down with the pad instead of picking at every single masked part).
I then attached the man of war hose parts to the back, using some screws and I painted a brass nut base red to replicate that brass part for the one hose.

The missile, dental expander and keypad have been painted. I added the white tip to the missile and glued on a disc magnet to the back to replicate the missing parts from the man of war casting. The disc magnet just simply had the right size and shape and I had it in my spares. I didn't even notice these features until I examined the reference photos very closely.
The missile has a very distinctive look with less chipping on the center black splines and a distinctive "scorched " look to the head. I also clesrcoate the missile ( or laser whistling bird, its changed what it is through the years) in Tamiya satin clearcoat to get a nicer mettalic shine to it ( basically gives it a slight shine under light to appear more likeits made of metal).
I have also include pics of the flamer, I replaced the cord with a rounder red spring cord and I am still waiting on my metal flexible USB cord to replicate the other hose. Still need to do some paint work on it but I'm pretty happy.
I will airbrush shade the gauntlet and then attach the flamer to it and we will see how she looks!

Thanks man! That means a lot coming from you! I can't wait to get the armor in and start painting that. Of course I also have to start dying my flight suit. . .. very nervous about that!
Ya I would be a bit nervous but with the way everything has been going with your build you definitely got this!! It can’t be any worse than having to dye a girth belt

Thanks man! That gives me hope! Going to possibly try and dye it today while I'm off.

Without further ado, here is the infamous Yellow left gauntlet for the Pre Pro 2. As stated this was built using Man of War's resin gauntlet kit for ESB. After studying the reference pics for a while I have noticed several shape and size inaccuracies but since I am doing a "stylized" version, I'm ok with it.
You can also see the disc magnet I used on the back of the "rocket" to add that part to the Man of War resin casting.
Maybe some day I'll replace it with Wasted Fett gauntlets or Fettpride pulls but im alright with it now. I gave up on waiting on my metal USB cord from China and picked up a flexible metal cord from Lowes. It works ok.
If I were to do this again, I would completely scratch build the flame thrower out of gas and water line brass components from Lowes or Home Depot but I wanted to use my Marco Enterprises flamer unit so this is it.

You can also see the excellent Man of War hose hookups, he includes this tube that is the perfect size to pressure fit inside of the sink water line tubing. I roughly painted them black as the hoses will be weathered and one hose is almost opaque white.
I do have several Canon ITT plugs that I will run through the hoses but ill show that off at a later date.
Now I'll be working on my right red gauntlet, which is proving just as difficult. Lots of ways to go wrong. Even though I have built an RoTJ set of Man of War gauntlets, every build is an exercise in patience and learning.

Overall I'm pleased and the damage is as close to the reference I can get without having Rafelfett files to work off of.
I hope you all enjoy it.

I am still waiting on my RKD armor to come in and I can't wait to start slingin paint on those parts!

Thanks man! I'm pretty happy with it. I know the hinge isn't accurate but the weight of the resin gauntlets and lack of overlap rule out velcro.
I ended up using incredibly strong ( like 40lbs pull) neodymium bar magnets on the inside like o did with my RoTJ SE gauntlets to keep them closed. It works well and by offsetting them off the edge a bit it helps with "snap back" that could crakc the resin over time( basically when magnetic closure systems snap violently into place, they have a habit of structure damage over time due to the impact).
As stated, if I were to rebuild this, I would use vacuformed gauntlets with either a full fiberglass upper or just reinforced fiberglassed upper and use some plumbing and bathroom fixture pipe connections and steel rod and tube to make the flame thrower.
Just like all of our suits, it will be a never ending build, I will get it wearable and them slowly start tweaking and replacing parts as I find better items or get better at painting.

While I working on the right gauntlet I thought I might give yall some shots of the the left in detail. I'm working on the hoses.

Also, it turns out Xcoser produces a slightly more accurate fett ammo belt for about 30 bucks and I jumped on it on amazon.
I'm going to drop money on a Handmade horror belt for my RoTJ SE, but this being a budget oriented stylized build, rhe xcoser belt looks great!

So here are some more shots. Credit to Man of War for the resin gauntlet kit, and I added several of my own additions. ( mainly the Marco Enterprises flamer and then some switches and missile additions and hose connectors). All painted with Duplicolor silver base and Tamiya Camel Yellow spray and weathered with airbrush and pastel powders.
Still working on weathering the hoses and I need to add my black Eva foam interior padding. The belt will be weathered and painted a slightly darker brown, and I juat got one of the last true girth belts in from amazon which I will stain using the minwax express tube stain brown( walnut brown to be exact. I did this with my RoTJ se belt and it worked fantastically, I airbrush shade the belt after staining and lock in the color with scotchgaurd clear spray.

So I started to work on the right gauntlet. This was my first time building the ESB style right gauntlet. Once again this is the Man of War ESB set. I built it pretty much the same way I have built his RoTJ gauntlets.

I did install some Quest Designs darts, and inset them farther back as in the reference photos. I also started the pilot hole for the light up front but have yet to widen it out. I plan on using just a regular bulb that looks the part and hooking it up to a button cell inside. So the switch on the side is just a facade.
I also used CStallard designs resin cast dental file replicas, highly recommended. I have purchased his rangefinder parts too and they are all superior castings. Juat about perfect. Find him on Etsy! You will see the range rinder parts once I get tk the helmet.

So I once again used the hinge and neodymium bar magnets for closure. I will line the inside with foam and velcro, and have velcro sewn onto the sleeves of the shirt that way the gauntlets will close and also be secured to the flight suit via velcro, a method I haven't seen anyone use but it is excellent for keeping them in place and securing them solidly.

You can see on the inside where I used a steel reinforced epoxy plumbers putty around the hinges and magnets. The hinges have screws driven straight through them and the gauntlets, which I then grind down and putty over on the outside of the gauntlets. Super glue was liberally applied to the hinges and screws as well. I glued the magnets and then used the putty to further bind and smooth them. This will then be all covered with a layer of black Eva foam ( fun foam from hobby lobby) applied with contact cement to make a smooth, professional look to the inside as well as creat an additional binding layer to keep everything together.

This is all just bascoated, no weathering g yet, I used Duplicolor silver, then masked with Humbrol maskol and sprayed with Tamiya maroon. I then hand painted the various details and used thin sheet plastic cut to shape and glued to the whip cord housing( easier than masking and painting it). I oversprayed red on the sides of the white to replicate the same overseas seen in the references.
So I will run this over with some black through the airbrush to lightly shade it and enhance some of the finer details. I'll I'll snap some pics of my hoses and ITT cords for both gauntlets when I'm done. Enjoy!

Interesting thing I just found, so I have been searching for a kaiser stock and grip with no luck. But I ran across this. How many people want to bet this is the red cord used on the pre pro gauntlet. . . . . Its a kaiser camera part.

So I got the red gauntlet airbrushed and added some additional shading and weathering. I missed a large silver patch under the whiocord housing so I added that and also added the ubiquitous "black paint splatter " that is present on most Boba armor parts.

I also enhanced some of the details, still working on the light up front. You can see the hose with red overspray I decided to show the hoses for the yellow gauntlet as well. One is oversprayed with white and the other with brown. I used some old ITT connectors, I know they should be all silver, I may end up painting the one half of each connector or try to find some on ebay.
Please enjoy the pics, I will begin painting the main armor and helmet shortly!

Ok, so I got my RKD armor in from Moncal Prop Shop on Etsy. This is made from abs or bolteron plastic and I chose the basic deathless kit, as I needed to add my won dents.
I did this with a heat gun and different sized handles of screw drivers.
I trimmed the armor with tin shears and lean scissors then used an angle grinder with a flap sanding wheel to roughly smooth the edges, then went in with my orbital palm sander to do a final power sanding over the entire thing. Finally I used a sanding sponge to smooth everything out.
I basecoated it in SEM auto primer (black) then Duplicolor silver. I masked with liquid mask from humbrol. Sprayed Tamiya Camel yellow for the ab plate and Rustoleum chalked charcoal gray for the collar.
I then sprayed Tamiya Field Gray ( which is actually a shade of green) for the final color.
I'm pretty happy with this. I still have to run these through many, many layers of shading and scratches and weathering. So this is the stark, clean base color.

So the RKD armor came with another set of shoulders so I thought I would give them another go.

I added the dents the same way once I trimmed and sanded everything. I then sprayed Tamiya lemon yellow over the silver and then Camel yellow misted with line striping orange and misted again with Camel yellow.
I ordered the Pre Pre 2 decals from Trooperbay on Etsy and will use those enhanced with some over painting and I will weather and scratch the heck out of these.
I'm happy with the shades so far.

I will also be re doing the knees using the RKD kit as those knees are very well made and I can add my own dents( as opposed to having had to fill and sand the others then add different dents).

Once again this is just the base coat, many more paint layers to be done!

Awesome work my friend it’s moving along for sure!! I hit all my armor with 0000 steel wool after it’s dry to clean up the edges and give it a nice natural worn look!! But it’s coming together nicely my friend!

Thanks man! Yeah I tend to shade with the airbrush , then go in with some light washes and add random tint coats and then scratch it with steel wool and then use a dental pick to add finer ,deeper scratches. I wi then go in and enhance the paint with a fine detail brush and hit it with a satin clearcoat then knock that back with steel wool. That creates rhe unique Shiney yet flat look of the armor.
Thank you again for commenting on my thread, I love hearing feedback, negative and positive. I invite everyone to please comment or critique as they see fit!

Put some work in on the chest and abs. I may have gone a bit overscaled on the damage so I will dial it back with the airbrush and some Tamiya Field gray( which is the green I used for the lighter shade of green).
I used Tamiya dark green( the aircraft series rattlecan. AS19) for the darker green on the right( Boba's right, left in the picture) chest piece and diamond. All the peices were based in Duplicolor silver over Rustoleum primer, then masked with Humbrol maskol and sprayed with Tamiya Camel yellow from the rattlecan. I then obersprayed it with Rustoleum line striping orange and then misted it again with Camel yellow to get a slightly darker shade of yellow. The gray damaged pieces were sprayed with Rustoleum Chalk series anvil gray and misted with gray primer.
I then used the Tamiya AS 19 dark green for the darker shade of green and Tamiya Field gray for the lighter shade
I still need to go in and dial it back and weather it with the airbrush so these are rather stark and just a starting point, a badecoat of you will. Please enjoy the pictures!
I decided to go ahead and use the new rkd shoulders and knees so ill end going over those too as well. Who knows, I may end up repainting these too, its an ever evolving projects.
The decals are by Trooperbay and are really nice, I got his pre pro set. I lay end up trying to hand paint these on but I like using the vinyl stickers just to get the look quickly.

Just a couple of shots of the cod and kidney plate before I go to town on the armor with my airbrush. I haven't drilled any holes or anything and plan on painting all of theses to completion before I start drilling.
I used a mix of Tamiya Field gray nd dark green to gwt the slightly darker shade of the cod and kidney armor. The under colors are the same mix as the chest and ab parts.
Going to hit these with the airbrush and fine detail brushes today so ill have an update soon.

Ok, so i have hit the armor with a matte clearcoat(Rustoleum brand) and then went to town on it with the airbrush, using field gray to knock back some of the color and black to shade. I then replicated the black spatter that is prevalent on most Fett armor and sort of took inspiration from. The newly rediscovered pictures of the pre pro vest to do the scratches and black scuff marks.
Here is were the RKD armor comes in super handy, its black plastic, so if I scratch it with my dental pic down to the base plastic it appears black. This is a cosplayer dream as any wear and tear will appear more subtle and actually look like it's supposed to be there. This is why I always prime armor and helmets in black underneath the main base color. It's insurance against damage that is sure to happen in the future with wear, and I have found that black chipping is easier to turn into damage that looks like it's supposed to be there.
I then took a scotchbright pad and steel wool and scuffed it up and used my dental pic to replicate fine long scratches.
I then went in with black paint and a fine brush and added the black scuffs and squiggles and used white and green mixed to make a light green for scratches on the green parts.
I may have gone a bit overboard ( that's my weakness. I weather too much!) But since this is stylized, I'm alright with it.
I need to, detach the armor from the vest and dye and weather the vest. The vest should be more of a gray color with blackish shading around the armor panels. Anyways, more pics to come, please enjoy these!

Did some work on the knees. These are RKD knees, with Quest Designs of Canada darts. I didn't like my first knees and these will do nicely.
I didn't get the colors right on the last set and since I got the RKD armor and it came with knees I figured I'd go ahead and redo them.
I did get the right knee slightly darker as it is according to the reference page by using line striping orange misted over the Camel yellow and then used the Camel yellow misted over that to blend it all in.
I shaded it a bit with my airbrush and scuffed it up with steel wool and a scotchbright pad for some fine surface scratches.
