Slave2112's ESB Build

I pointed this out, and was “corrected” as to the text of the CRL.
Not to rub salt on the wound, but I was just looking at the CRL. The model and his girth belt (used in the part image) have the correct silver buckles. This should be brought to the attention of the BHG. If they changed the text, they wouldn't even have to change the pictures, which is good.

Yep, it sure looks like an old text error that was never corrected.

Even the promo pics (which look to be from the set of ESB) wouldn’t change his mind. He pointed back to the CRL.

All 501st CRLs say the following right at the top:

"During evaluation, both text and images (CRL and Reference) must be considered."

The CRL is not the only factor to consider; references matter too. Especially in the case of OT Boba, with so much variation in the kit between scenes.

But my complaining won't change much. It occurred to me the other day that I will have to work with this exact staff member for my Boba approval, since I am in Florida as well. Now I will say, he's not required to know every single costume in the Legion. OT Boba isn't one that comes across his desk every day, so I get sticking to the CRL. But I am disappointed to hear he isn't considering reference photos. He's been a GML for a long time, one of the best, which is why Florida has the best-looking troopers.

Just a tough situation, you did what was best for you. I will not be changing or painting my buckles. If I encounter this issue during my approval, I will raise it with the detachment.

I'll be interested to see how your approval process goes.

Any chance you have any more of the blue micro dental files (blue)?

Unfortunately, I don’t have one, otherwise I’d help you out. I got mine from 01Hawk a few years ago. I’m not sure if he still has them, but if he does, I’d definitely grab a few more as spares.

I’m still a few months away from approval. My main hold-up is the Clothears parts, which should arrive in September. I knew going in that the wait would be long, so no complaints there. It’ll be worth it. I’m aiming for approval around October/November.

Small correction as well, I guess I won’t be going to the detachment if I get held up on the buckles. viewoptic and I had a pretty solid and respectful debate, but from command’s perspective, they’re considered brass or even GOLD! I even suggested compromising with silver/brass since, as Ord Mantell and others pointed out, the buckles are actually nickel-plated brass. Logically, over time, the silver finish would rub off, and the brass would show through. No luck.

At this point, I may just buy two girth belts. One with brass buckles for approval and one with the correct silver buckles for after approval. They don’t check your costume again after approval anyway. If a kid ever comes up to me at a troop and says, “Your buckles should be brass, not silver,” I’ll happily admit defeat on this one LOL!

Thanks, I'll reach out to 01Hawk.

My gloves are from Clothears. Wish I could've justified the cost of their flightsuit...maybe down the road if this goes really well.

I just added to that conversation. In my opinion, the pics the admin posted as "proof" argue against his own point. I'd prefer to keep all of this respectful. I used Rub & Buff.....which as noted above can be removed if so desired.

I did re-submit on Saturday (3rd time), and it's taken him about 5-7 days to respond each time, so we'll see.

Done.

Do we definitively know if they used the same girth from ESB to RotJ?
From my understanding, it is the same belt, but the ropes were repainted. The buckle shape is identical on ROTJ and ESB, according to the references. But I do not think there is a definitive answer. We do know for sure that the buckles are nickel-plated brass. But I could be wrong. Most of my fett knowledge is limited to the ESB kit. I only know surface-level stuff about the other OT suits.

Someone with more experience could probably give a more definitive answer. That said, I don’t think it really changes the overall point. The ESB set photos speak for themselves; that was just meant as a supplemental reference.

Years ago (around 2001), someone posted a ton of pics from when the RotJ screen-worn suit was on display somewhere (Smithonian?), and I downloaded all of the pics (I'm sure they're available here as well), and I have zero doubt these are NOT gold/brass finished.

Those two pictures show brass discoloration, and the top loop is brass...

This is an old Fossil belt of mine I have worn everyday for many years. You will see the silver belt buckle has wear on it and is showing a brass / copper color underneath. This is what I believe is similar to what we are seeing.
