Hey all posting progress of my new scratch built helmet.

Started off with Rafales V.2 template on 2mm chipboard.

And this is where I'm at after finishing the base, doing a few modifications and resining the bucket.

Will post more progress pics as time permits and as I'm able.

I'm sure some will notice the ear caps are missing.

I'm gonna add them soon. My little brother was nice enough to 3d print for me since they're one of the hardest areas to model.

Applied a quart of everbond gold tonight. Put it on rather thick but it sands fast.

This stuff is amazing, dries rock hard in 45 minutes.

I will NEVER use Bondo again. Its always had a spongy feel to me after curing, even when following the mixing instructions to the letter.

With Bondo I've also dealt with chipping, cracking and the inability to hold fine detail.

This kicks faster so you have to work in small batches, the smallest size circle in the mixing guide, if you don't want to waste product.

But it should be much less prone to chipping, cracking and losing fine detail like I've mentioned above.

Got the dome sanded. Sorry no pics right now.

The dome was a little more wonky than I wanted it to be, so I did a Google search and learned how to make a contour gauge for a dollar.

It's just a piece of corrugated cardboard with Dollar tree bamboo skewers pushed through the corrugations.

Worked great. Posting here in case it can help someone else in their build.
