My ASOK CC FP Boba Helmet WIP! Update 8-22-11

Excited to finally have something to show. My WIP Asok / FP CC Boba Helmet! Just finished back panels and will be moving on the the ears next. Silver is topical on the gray, found it alot easier to do it this way rather than the trouble I was having with colors not sticking to the silver. It is slow going because I don't have the drive to work on it every day, but when I get free time, I will keep updating the thread. The panels are slightly bluer in appearance in person. The camera has shifted them more to the green side, but I am still OK with them.

Does the silver behave like that all the time? Colors dont stick to it? I found its easier to scrape colors off silver rather than any other color.

If im gonna do a layer style silver would be the second coat behind the dark grey right?

That is the Lark Dark gray. I airbrushed it over that awesome primer that BG Hunter recommended and it stuck very well. Then I did all the silver topically and went over it with a very fine steel wool. The green color is actually a custom color I mixed myself with acrylics. I hated the way the spray paint combo was coming out. Looked too dark. That is a custom color mixed with acrylics and sponged on in layers. Yes, I said sponged!

A small update, but an update none the less! Got 2 of the three colors done on the left ear. Red then light gray. Off to get some Italian Olive Satin Krylon!

ONLY if you are going to do it the way I did. The traditional way is to do the silver first then begin the layering with gray, etc. I had to strip the paint off my back panels on my first try and didn't want to deal with it again! So I chose my own way of still doing a layered method, but not letting the silver be the base layer.

I just got myself one of these? how hard was it to work with? I haven't really thought ahead about painting any of my Fett stuff, but I'm assuming you liquid latex, primer, liquid latex some more, green & red then remove the liquid latex? That is if you can use liquid latex as a block to create the scratches.

JayBox325 - That is basically the way you do it. Do a search for layered paintjobs and you can find more in depth step by step. This is a great helmet to work with, I just ordered a 2nd one in fact. I want to do it topically because this is a PAIN!
