hey there everybody! i was just sitting here thinking to myself about star wars...i love the series and ive read alot of the books but i was just thinking, why not make something else up to go with it? for instance, say i was playing the d20 star wars game with some friends, and i wanted a mandalorian but i wanted to give him a custom story, such as "he is a hunter, not a bounty hunter, going from planet to planet killing the most fearsome beasts on that planet and keeping something as a trophie" and i decide i want to make a suit that included helmet, chest and stomach, back and shoulder bells but really no other armor, just the belts and all the little things a typical mando would have...and say i used a large patch of fur for the cape, i used the sandtrooper sand weathering, and i have a necklace of fangs or something, and all that good stuff...and then i went to the local star wars convention...i dont know if the reaction would be pleasant or if i would be mocked by the jedi and stormtrooper clones. for instance, at the last comicbook convention i was at, i was a tusken raider, and i got some good feedback on the suit. but there was a jedi wearing chainmail...and everyone seemed to be mocking his costume, when i thought it was a really cool idea...is this just me or does it seem kinda like highschool, where if your not like everyone else, you wont fit in at all? just my ranting lol...

In my opinion you shouldn't worry about it... and as for people mocking one another... none of us has any right to mock any one since we're star wars, costuming nerds... there i said it. My point is though that we should stick together and encourage each others creativity, much like we do on this forum, as opposed to the high and mighty Jedi who mocked the medieval Jedi

In my opinion customs are the best way to express yourself. I have to give credit to the guys who put in the effort to get as close to screen accurate costumes but for me that is not where I want to take my costuming at the moment. As for the chain mail, I wore a chain mail coif with both my Mando and my Sith Lord at D-Con and got a lot of complements. I did get a few people who asked me why I was wearing it and that there was no such thing in the Star Wars universe. My answer to them was "How do you know?"

I say go with what ever you want to do. Dont listen to what others sayd and do what you feel like doing. I would love to do a multicammed Mando but Boba is my favorite character and I love his outfit so much.

Not necessarily; there are rules to the Star Wars universe that you shouldnt break. For one, a Mandalorian shouldn't wield a lightsaber. Why? Because that's the culture of a Mandalorian; if you want to play with a lightsaber, be a Jedi, Sith, or some variation.
yes, but what if...say, the mandalorian killed a jedi or sith? maybe just a begginer jedi who just obtained his light saber? and what if the mandalorian decided to break away from his culture? i mean i personally dont like light sabers too much, but i'm just saying, if the star wars universe is anything like owr own, anything can happen.

If a Mando killed a Jedi, he did just that; killed a Jedi. He did so without a lightsaber, and therefore doesnt need a lightsaber to kill another one.
As pointed above, a Mando may take on as a trophy in the same way that one would take wookiee scalps; but a true Mandalorian would not use a lightsaber in combat. Why? Because a lightsaber in the hands of anyone who is not Force-Sensitive, and not trained in the ways of the Force, is impractical; a Mandalorian has good reflexes, but they do not sense incoming blaster bolts.
It could happen, a Force-Senitive Mandalorian. But a Mandalorian Jedi is virtually impossible; Jedi are trained from the time they are infants; unless one abandons the Jedi and joins the Mandalorians (which is difficult anyway; even Revan, as a great a warrior as he was, was never invited into the Mandalorian clans).
Personally, I see the taking of lightsabers as trophies as a bit overdone; Palpatine did it, Aurra Sing did it, General Greivous did it, Durge did it... it's massively overdone now-a-days, just like the "Mandalorian Bounty Hunter" concept. Just because Boba Fett was a Mandalorian bounty hunter doesnt mean customs should be, too; that's part of what gave Fett his reputation. "He's wearing Mando armor, dont mess with him." Show some ingenuity, some creativity; a creative backstory garners more interest than a cookie-cutter Fett copy.
If I was to make my Mando take lightsabers as trophies, I'd have him hang them about the interior of his ship, or have a specific room in his ship dedicated to trophies of past battles. But not just lightsabers; blasters, vibroblades, anything; the trophy itself would be the weapon (or armor) that his opponent had favored in the battle.
The point is to make your idea original. For example, instead of taking the lightsaber of a Jedi, a Mandalorian could take a piece from the robe of said Jedi, later attaching it to the cloak he wears over his shoulder. Or he could go so far as to collect the long braid of a padawan, and display it like Boba would display Wookiee scalps.
Im not trying to start an argument since I havent read the books but somebody mentioned on TDH that a jedi in the Republic Commando books had an interest in mandalorians and wore some mando armor. Now I know its different than an actual mandalorian jedi. I could possibly see a mandalorian using a lightsaber when he gets into some close quaters combat and wants to know that hes going to actually have some hits that will count. Though it will clearly make him standout if he gets into any melee combat.

I would take one as a trophy for 2 reasons. It's a viscious weapon that could really hurt even if someone got a lucky shot on me and....It would be an excellent door opener. The same reason that when I clear a room I don't leave a weapon laying around to be reused. ( but that's work)
I wan't lured for fett by the bounty hunting I chose my mandalorian because he was a mandalorian one of the tribe/ clan. I bet there are a lot who choose their bounty hunter as mandalorian for the comraderie just look at the con pics tell me there isn't a mando bond. Be a different hunter just to be origional ????HA . be a aruetusii .no I choose to be a mando.

well im working on a mando right now that is a big game hunter...not a bounty hunter or anything. and like i said, i dont like light sabers, and i dont much care for jedi or sith. in fact, i love barbaric races like the gamorrean, so i think that my love for barbarism would show on my costume. even if it is nothing like the actual story of star wars, or 100% accurate to mandalorian ways, ill do it anyway.

For your first part, you have it wrong. Taking a weapon just because someone else could use it is not the same as taking a trophy. A trophy represents your celebration of victory over an opponent, or an equally memorable event in which you earned such a thing.
A great door opener, eh? Ever consider charges/grenades? Acid? Or maybe good old fashioned computer skill to break the lock?
For your second part... well, that was difficult to understand, given the extreme lack of grammar and punctuation. But I will attempt a response.
Okay, con pics. Have you ever been to a Con in costume? You are automatically connected to anyone who makes a costume from the same fandom as your own. It's not the sole fact that they have Mandalorian costumes.
Before I go on, I must ask what the English translation of aruetusii is; and please explain using proper punctuation and grammar.
Now, what I said earlier is that a Mandalorian bounty hunter is overdone. If one chooses to make their character a Mandalorian bounty hunter just so they can be like everyone else, they have no business writing a story. All they need are five words: I am a Fett copy.
Judging by your silly little scoff at originality , I am guessing you don't posess much of your own. How sad for you. The best stories out there deal with something that we have not seen before, or seen much of. A new take on an old idea, of sorts.

And this is a perfect example; how many Mandalorian big game hunters have we seen? None, or at least not many. But it's perfectly within the nature of a Mandalorian to be one, to constantly challenge himself in a man-against-beast struggle to prove that he is the better.

It doesnt have to be the story of Star Wars; that's what's great about custom characters. They have their own story within the Star Wars Universe; while it may not be the story of Star Wars, it is definately a story of Star Wars.
My point is to avoid the temptation to make your character into a copy of Boba Fett. While Fett's a great character, a wannabe Fett is not.

OK...I'm just gonna throw this out there. Isn't costuming supposed to be fun? If someone wants to be a Mando bounty hunter...why not let them be a Mando bounty hunter? Does having fun mean you need to follow different rules, and be someone completely different? In my opinion, No.
Now granted I am really new to this costuming thing...so maybe I'm a noob and don't know anything, but if someone is OK with following the crowd...what gives you the right to knock them down? Let people have fun w/ their costume...now granted not everyone can be original...it sux for some people that others have to follow someone else's lead...but if the "Boba Fett Cookie Cutter's" are having fun and don't care...neither should you!
Besides, in the EU alot of Mando's are bounty hunters...or maybe I misread the latest book Bloodlines??
