General Building a Sound Glove Boba Fett: Guide

New Hunter
Hi everyone!

I wanted to share how I set up my sound glove and what components I used to build it.

Video of it in use

Components:

  • Soundbox COSVOX: eBay Link
  • Cable ties: AliExpress Link
  • Hot glue (for securing components)
  • USB C cable (1.5m): AliExpress Link
  • 3.5mm jack male-to-male cable (1.5m): AliExpress Link
  • Powerbank (optional, there is an AAA battery pack included)
  • Speaker (optional but recommended for better sound output)

Assembly:

The only modifications I made were attaching the buttons and unit to the straps. To add sound files to the unit, you’ll need to connect it via a USB-to-USB C cable. Inside the unit, there are 4 folders named sound 1, sound 2, sound 3, and sound 4. Each folder can hold 4 sound files per button.

I used sound lines from Star Wars: Battlefront for my sound glove. You can find the sound files in this post on TDH: Boba Fett Sounds for Trooping.

Future Plans:

Initially, I planned to use Bluetooth to connect the sound glove to a pocket speaker, but it turned out to be more complicated than expected since both a TX and RX are required. I might try this again in the future.

I also plan to tidy up the wiring by gathering them into a wire sock for better organization.

posted on TDH and BFB.

It's always interesting to see what kind of setup folks are rockin' for their 'Fett Voice'. I myself use the MiCom 2.0 setup and went wireless with Bluetooth. Here is a list of the stuff I used:

Awesome setup! I need to get myself some of those bluetooth transmitters aswell! Thanks! Which lines do you use on yours?

Bobamannen
Thanks man! So when you order from MiCom, they have different voice profiles you can choose from. Obviously, I chose the Boba Fett version. But they offer many other ones as well. This year I finished up a ROTJ Scout Trooper costume as well...
Matt as ROTJ Scout Trooper.jpg

...and one of the cool things with the MiCom is that it allows for up to three voice profiles to be loaded up. Now MiCom doesn't have a 'Scout Trooper' voice profile, but they do have a Stormtrooper one which works just as well for a Scout. I've included both scripts (PDF) for anyone that wants to take a look.

But to answer your question of:
Question: Which lines do you use on yours?
Answer: MiCom's Custom Boba Fett Lines.

MiCom gets voice actors in to read from a script. I know there was talk of possibly getting Temuera Morrison in to voice Jango and Boba. And I think they were working through the legal contractual particulars at that time. But for their Stormtrooper voice profile they actually got Terry McGovern to voice it up. Who is Terry McGovern? He was the Sandtrooper who stops Obi-Wan and Luke in Mos Eisley in A New Hope. The famous lines of:
Sandtrooper: Let me see your Identification.
Obi-Wan: You don't need to see his identification.
Sandtrooper: We don't need to see his identification.
Obi-Wan: These aren't the droids you're looking for.

Sandtrooper: These aren't the droids we're looking for.
Obi-Wan: He can go about his business.
Sandtrooper: You can go about your business.
Obi-Wan: Move Along.
Sandtrooper: Move Along, Move Along.

When I heard that he was the voice, I was like, that's pretty cool!

Here is a quick clip of the MiCom with the Boba Voice profile...

And a demo that MiCom put on for Boba Fett...

And that Stormtrooper demo (For those interested)....
