A cheaper alternative to sintra

belive it or not,, those FOR SALE signs that sell for 99 cents do work! They are the same as the normal sintra material but alittle thiner but can be glued into layers.... Trust me,, great for crotch, shoulders, and chest too!

this stuff works....

Yeah.. we can always use cheap crotch armor.. :rolleyes

Personally... my crotch deserves only the best!

1/4" thick metal!!!!

i *know* that people occassionally take hits to the cod, so there is NO way i'm cutting corners there ;)

that said, those no parking signs are an integral part of my stormtrooper outfit, and make guest appearances in just about everything i've ever made.

they are a GREAT way to get some material on the cheap.

Seriously though, this is definately a good idea for those of us who cant afford/find Sintra.

well, i found out how to use this material becuz alot of ppl who made GHOST BUSTERS proton paks, do use this stuff and it ca be used in the vacuformed process... I used this material on my proton pak b4 and i figured that it shoudl work on boba fett armor,, and its great becuz u can make sholder parts under 2 minutes.

Using these with layering sometimes presents a molding/curving problem as the layers do not bent the same from top to bottom (physics right...). I recommend a flexible glue between them like goop... but spread it thin otherwise during the heating process the glue could boil out or pool making the plastic warped.

Another method is to mold/curve the individual layers, one on a buck and then the rest layer on layer (still on the buck to reduce warping of the bottom piece due to heat transfer) then glue the curved peices together.

Also some of the styrene used in the plastic may shrink if the heat is too high.

And vacuuforming layered peices usually leads to problems if they are glued or not. With the glued peices the glue may or may not be flexible enough at the temperature you are using and can cause the plastic not to pull with the vacuum. If they are not glued, the air between the plastic can expand and form bubbles or warp the layers.
