Boushh New footage of the Electro Staff?

Ubese

New Hunter
Hey gang!

I was watching Return of the Jedi yesterday. During the battle at the Sarlacc Pit I spotted a new detail I had not seen before. The weapon Han uses to destroy Boba Fett's jetpack by accident, and that he uses to help Lando get back up onto the skiff, seems to be the Electro Lance that Boushh carried before. At first I wasn't sure but the tip of the staff is pretty iconic. The overall shape matches the Staff as well.

I am not sure if this has been discovered before. If so: please ignore this post. Otherwise let's see if anyone can come up with some screenshots from the BluRay-Edition. Maybe we can shed some light on the lower section of the weapon.

If you would like to check the scene before diving into action. Here is the link to the youtube-video:

/edit: Don't get confused: I posted this over at the RPF as well (Epona_Rhi) so that users not registered here can help out, too.

I thought the weapon Han used that 'conveniently' hit Fetts jetpack was a vibroaxe.

That's what I thought, too. Until yesterday...

Here you can see that the staff that Han uses to help Lando, is definitely not a vibroaxe:

Why would he change the staff for another staff after he hit the jetpack? That makes no sense to me. So I am pretty sure it is an Electro Staff.

The stills look pretty convincing to me! :) those shots totally look like Boushh's staff.

However I'm still fairly certain they used the axe to hit Fett though. If you look at the damaged stunt pack used, there is a definite blade mark. I'm on my phone right now so I can't grab a still but I remember seeing Han with the axe hitting Fett.

Why they they would switch between the two I have no idea. Wouldn't be the first time continuity was taking a coffee break.

Kudos for for using the old footage btw :) sidebar question. Do you pronounce Boushh: 'boosh' or 'bawsh'

Ok, so taking a quick look in our gallery I wasn't able to find the shot I was looking for...and now suddenly doubting myself.

HOWEVER :)

I did find this.....

Now, it's still pretty hard to decipher what weapon that is. Since there were only a few random staffs or axes on that skiff....I was thinking that a few behind the scenes shots would help. I then found this:

Pretty sure the staff that Kithaba has in the middle is what Han used. What do you think? It has the same top.

The toy...but you get an idea of the staff ...

Looking back at your screenshots of Han dangling from the skiff....pretty sure this matches up.

Just on your sidebar question Aaron - personally, I've always pronounced Boushh as 'bosh', rhyming with 'wash'. But I've said it like that since I was a kid, and I'm definitely saying it wrong. On the 1996 Return of the Jedi radio drama, Anthony Daniels says it as 'boo-sh'.

Thanks DeathProof! That footage is pure gold! :) Seems I got fooled by the perspective. The tip of Kithaba's weapon seems to be a bit longer than the one of Boushh's weapon. Especially when looking at the black/white "behind the scenes" shot. Somehow I am glad this did not lift the secret of the lower staff section. Basically because I just finished my own staff and this new discovery would have made it obsolete right away :D

As for continuity and switching weapons: They all look very much the same if you don't pay too much attention. So when switching angles and re-shooting scenes after lunch, maybe the weapons got mixed up by the set decorators.

Regarding your sidebar question: I am pronouncing "Boushh" as "boo-sh", as in "swoosh!". The "oo" sounding as in "you". I am however not sure if this is the right way :D
