WIP: Lightsaber (Formerly: Is it heresy to inquire about Jedi robes on TDH?)

Thanks!! Im into parts, including dremel discs and epoxy $60, but worth it. I probably could have bought one for less, but what's the point of that! :) I'll keep pics coming. Thanks again for your support guys. I'm under a time crunch for halloween, so it may not have the detail I want. Nut still cant wait. It's not the destination, it's the journey, right? :)

DeepC, I'll post pics of her too ;)

I've got my 20" iMac and love it. I've been a Mac guy for a while. I highly recommend them even though they cost more. It's like anything, you get what you pay for.

I do graphic design and web development. Mac is a must. My acer is only for Quickbooks and testing IE sites. :p

That saber is going to look sweet! What are those black parts you're using on the grip? I've always thought the grip would be the biggest pain in the shebs (trying to align all the parts and not getting glue everywhere), but those rings look like a piece of cake. Keep the pics coming!

Here is the final mockup. The chrome tube has been shortened to 6"

The handle grip is from a broken Coleman flashlight I had. Funny... it hasn't worked in years. I was wondering why I never threw it out. Now I know it wanted to be a part of something cool. :)

Here is the number of the bottom of the flashlight.

Only cost me four stitches removing it. :)

Ouch! Of course, if you'd been wearing proper Mando gaunts, that never would have happened!:D But seriously, that saber looks cool. I have a whole box of worthless junk from old home improvement projects and such that I never throw out either. You just never know when those parts will come in handy on a build. Hope that finger doesn't slow your build down too much.

Ok. Got the first coat of Krylon on these parts today. I'm not much of a painter so any advice on this would be great (number of coats, sanding between, etc.).

I also included a few pics of assembly. I'm not sure if I'm posting to many or too much detail on a simple step, let me know. I'm kinda proud. :)

I inserted a small piece of PVC pipe to hold the brass piece up more

Some current mock ups.

It looks really great ! One tip I received from my local costume / prop buddies is after you paint, a few coats on wet sand it with super fine grit paper. Start with something like 800, then, 1000 or 1200, then 1400. I guess you can get that grade of paper at an auto parts store as they use it for car painting. It gives it a supreme glasslike finish.

Wal-mart sells wet/dry sandpaper up to 2000 grit. It's in the automotive section.
They have a combo pack with 1000,1500,& 2000 in it.

I know this is mostly about a lightsaber, but if you're still looking for boots, the best piece of advice anyone ever gave me was to look at second hand stores. I found the best obiwan boots, nice leather, already aged, for about 5 bucks. Added some straps and they worked great. Wore them to Ep 2 and 3 and beyond!

Thanks Tod 'buir, I'm a little proud of it so far. Im glad i didn't "replicate" a movie version. I enjoyed the artistic license of builing a custom. It reinforces my thoughts of doing a custom mando verses a traditional boba, although still undecided.

Slave1pilot, I just picked some up, thanks for the tip.

JediJayne, Ill look around today. Got a pic of what you picked up?

The boots are at my parents' place unfortunately but I did find some pics from last halloween. Obviously they're a far cry from any kind of screen accuracy, but they fit great, look good, and only cost about $15 (5 for the boots and 10 for the leather strapping)
