WIP: Lightsaber (Formerly: Is it heresy to inquire about Jedi robes on TDH?)

Flatrabbit

Jr Hunter
Please know this: I want to be Boba (or Mando)!!!!

That being said, I'm brand new and plan on doing it right. But... Halloween is coming and my gf is goin as a sexy padme. I just thought a Jedi would be "easier". Please don't snub me or banish me. :)

Any ideas? I heard about Simplicity 4450 pattern. It looks good and my mum is a great seamstress.

Cheers.

P.S. I realllly love Boba. ;)

I used that pattern and it is awesome... the only difference is making the 'obi' (sash) around the waist a little longer and it ties instead of velcro.

That pattern is very hard to find so you may have to hit the Bay to find it, but it is defintely worth it to use.

As for the robe, check Simplicity and McCalls for their wizard-esque robes and just widen the hood and hem the sleeves and it will work pretty good... I suggest a thick cotton bottomweight for the robe and cotton crinkle gauze or linen for the tunic.

If you have any questions, PM me as I am a council member over at the Jedi Assembly and can give you any pointers you may have.

Thanks,
Tony

Thanks guys.

Tony, I think I'm going with this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...19475&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT#ht_2144wt_1167

...and these...
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...61955&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT#ht_3858wt_1167

I know the boots are cheesy, but I dont want to spent $300 on Jedi stuff. The robes and tunic look pretty good and I talked him down to $80 + shipping.

My gf is looking at this from the same seller:

I still need boots for her and a lightsaber. I dont need a functional one, just a prop to hang from my belt. Any ideas (inexpensive-ish)?

kal'ika,
As soon as this Halloween is over (if not sooner), I'm on my Mando!! I have a great topsecret idea!! ;)

Tod 'buir,
I agree. :)

I'm excited that tomorrow I'll be a "legit" full member.

Cheers,

Sean Patrick

Go to Hoe Depot, Lowes, etc. and get a piece of plumbing pipe. Then got to the PVC pipe sectien and / or/ the sink knob section for the emitter ( lightsaber ) end and the pommel ( bottom end ).

Paint the ends silver, black, whatever, and glue on some greeblies ( non-descript odds and ends which look technological and functional) . Put a D ring on the butt end so it will hook onto your belt.

Good luck Sean and don't forget to post pics when you're done !

Have fun building !

For a cheapish lightsaber, check out Target. They have some with a blade you can flick out with your wrist for as low as $7.99. The Anakin Skywalker one didn't look half bad, though you could always paint it and stick on a few bells and whistles. Might work if you're pressed for time.

Thanks Timmer. I think Ill try this!! Should be fun, and that's the point, right?

Tod 'buir, I have a couple of those. They're fun, but I think I have time for a little more. My youngest daughter (of three) loves hers. This pic is of her last year at Halloween (her idea completely). I've never been more proud. :)

She watches at least one of the movies every Saturday morning. :)

Cheers, guys.

No problem Flatrabbit. If you do go to the Depot or Lowes, take your time walking around, especially through the plumbing and PVC pipe sections, there are all kinds of cool connectors and such. Another thing that may help, the toy sabers are WAY bigger than the movie versions. The Master Replica's FX are also bigger than the movie versions because they have to squeeze in the electronics. I was watching a "making of" recently and saw how really skinny the stunt sabers were that they used.

For glue, just check the glue aisle for JB Weld, or 2 part epoxy, just read the label for what materials they are good for.

I checked out your costumes after my last post, and I agree a custom saber is the way to go.
Post some pics when you're done, then get to work on a Boba!:D

Thanks again guys. After Halloween for sure!! Maybe sooner if I wrap this up. Timmer and Tod 'buir, can I see your suits? Do you have pics somewhere?

Yes, those will be fine for Halloween and yes, do the custom saber from the plumbing section in Lowes... that is how I did my first one and it didn't come out half bad.

I'm scratchbuilding a Boba & Jango for my 6 year-old twins for Halloween. The thread is on the Boba Armor section. I downgraded a lot because of their ages & time, but the project was still a great dry run for when I start my Boba (with no deadlines!!!).

I'm still working on my ESB Boba. I've got several parts in the "almost done" phase. I only need 2 or 3 more things to complete the costume, but I've still got a lot of work ahead. I have a finished Stormtrooper that I currently troop in. I'm also spiffing up my 4 year old nephew's Vader Deluxe Kids costume. I repainted an old Vader voice changer helmet and I'm adding a separate breathing unit to it. I may add some lights to the chest too.

Rough mockup. The white and black plastic parts will be painted black. The chrome tube will be shorted a few inches.
