Starting on my First Costume -Stormtrooper X

StormtrooperX

New Hunter
Well I am a huge Star Wars fan and I recently decided that I need at least one cool Star Wars costume after and friend and I took up trying to learn lightsaber fighting in our spare time at college.
Then I found out I got an RA position for a freshmen floor next year and then I decided I had no choice and it would be so awesome to have for welcome week and for many other uses  And no I'm not worried about being beating up or made fun of for it because well every one on the football team knows I am a huge star wars fan so if I were to have any problems (which I doubt) it wouldn't take much to get someone to help me take care of it  even if I am the kicker. You always got to protect your kicker hahah

Now the reasons for choosing Stormtrooper X so is that there is very little material(written) on him and it does not seem like that difficult, because its my first costume, nor that expensive, since I am in college and have to pay out of my own pocket.

Anyway I unfortunately got a rubies stormtrooper helmet, which I know is not the best but it will do for now, I guess. Well I am planning on replacing the lenses so I can see through them better and painting a red X on the front. I am getting some black trim for the bottom of the helmet and a liner for the helmet its self. I hope to do some other touch ups to the helmet such as the painting the little speakers on the front silver or even replacing them.

Then for the rest of the suit.... Working on a jacket (trying to find a military jacket with only two front pockets) two belts(one doesn't matter a whole lot and then the other needs to be green with holes in it), trying to see if I can get a custom holster made (waiting on a reply back), and then his two guns. For the hand gun I am just going to either get a han solo blaster and spray it black or convert one of my broken air soft guns into a cool looking gun. For the rifle of sorts I have a idea to cut some parts out of wood and then use some PVC pipe and spray it black (Hopefully turns out well). Then for the pants I am planning on getting some black pants I found on line and adding a yellow strip on the side. The gloves I am not worried about yet might just use some paintball ones for now and the boots will be my grandpa's old Army boots.

Here is my reference picture.

If any one has any advice please feel free to share I'll try to post my progress as I hope to finish this over the summer.

I just got some black canvas dickies for the pants and my yellow blood stripes today. Getting ready to do some paining on the helmet I already put the screen in the mouth. Hopefully have some pics up soon to show some progress.

I couldn't help but try on all I had so far. Obviously needs a lot of work and a different jacket, belts, and need to add the stripes on the pants (need to wash um first), and the guns (hahaha) oh and the gloves are almost ready just added the red stripes (not in picture)

well thats all so far....

I always loved the idea of this type of character. Somebody that would use just random bits of armor.

exactly and perfect for someone just starting out (or at least I thought so)

Pretty cool concept of a character who knows if he will ever get an expanded official bio though (which I doubt) but if not it always gives room for the imagination :D

after looking at my photo I will probably add the black stormtrooper neck piece to the costume as well just to make it look more uniform

The jacket in the illustration reminds me of (but doesn't look exactly like) the original Battlestar Galactica Viper pilot jacket. Right down to the color and suede shoulders.

Add the chest pockets and it'd be perfect!

so true!! well I may have to do some searching for that as well because at this point I am looking for either a jacket to modify or even a work shirt. I figure if I cannot find something with the shoulders already I can always sow some red felt on or something like that.

I know it'd be heavy and hot as hell but a welding jacket kind of looks like that too. I used to work at a bronze foundry and we had to wear them when we poured the bronze. They were about $100, though but they had a good look to them.

I shoved some bent up coat hangers inside the helmet to make it wider and less as long and its defiantly an improvement at least I think.

Also is it normal to want more once you start because I am already thinking of ways to make and save money to make/buy a actual movie replica by next year?

It looks much better! Did you glue the handers in so it stays?

Heck yeh it looks ALOT better i was gonna comment on it looking weird...but the coat hangers helped it out alot...I have an Abercrombie jacket from a few year back that looks like that jacket minus the add ons...keep up the hard work

Right now the coat hangers are just bent in a circle and jammed in the helmet I have hemet padding on the way so I have not glued it in the helmet yet because I want to make sure they will placed in such a way to allow for the padding and the helmet to be a better shape instead of that weird shape it was originally. I love its more round shape and I am glad I thought of using the coat hangers. Also as of now they stay perfectly fine in the bottom of the helmet and don't even touch my face so even with out glue is working pretty well. I was also afraid that if I glued them then they would not keep pushing out on the helmet as much to make it more wider. So I may leave them lose but secure the padding around it which I think should work. And yeah well I am going to be up in chicago this weekend and I am going to look at some stores including bass pro shop to see if I can find a jacket that will work.

The gloves are finished and look great. I am probably going to make the "ammo belt" out of some leather and just custom make it so wish me luck. And starting on designs for the two guns tonight!

I also painted the mouth black because his mouth in the picture is black and it looks a lot better.

Im not at home but Id sell it cheap to you if you dont find anything when i do go home

That would be awesome at least I know I will still have options if I don't find anything when you do get home if you could post a picture so I could see what its like it would be much appreciated.
