my kashyyyk trooper build......progress

now i have to thin out the viser, it is a little to thick. on the flares , they are a beast.
i think once i have the bottom of the helmet where it meets, right. it will look better.

the 3 rectangles at the top are cannon. they are just to tall. they only go up about a quarter of an inch.

the thickness did catch my eye, but goign back to my good ole rubies I noticed that on that bucket, it WAS quite thick :

it does look thinner on the ref pic's, but not by much

wow didnt realise abt the 3 rectangles. thought they were too symmetrical and persistent just to be 'accidents'

i have given up on making this helmet a flip face. the gaps will be too big. mainly where the viser meets the brow. to make it work you need a 8 th of an inch gap. the screen shots show no gaps . maybe version 2.0 will be a flippy. but not right now. the idea of this build is to be a accurate as possible. so j-b weld it is. but this helmet will come together alot quicker without the added headache of trying to make it work.

it is my first helmet build after all.

i hang my head in defeat.

but,i will rise up with a full heart and bury this helmet in it's own blood. HAHAHAHA

something one of my heros would say.

bill the butcher from gangs of new york. he had one eye, i have one eye. so i admire bad azzs with one eye!!!!! LOL!!!!

hey mate - no worries.
sure no one will fault u mate.
the complex curves of the lid look really difficult to sculpt at all.
I agree with Skip - nothing to hang in shame abt, top job so far.

I was thinking of this - you would have to also make a weird semi-curcular thing where the face plate hinges to the bucket itself, and the faceplate would have to site forward just a wee bit to accomodate for the movement.

even the Rubies lids make some compromise to being accurate as teh face plate never seems to fit right. I was planning on using velcro to keep my face plate in place.

plus points - cutting it :
(1) improved the front/back dimension
(2) make casting possible

who knows - someone may have some fun modding this lid to make it flippable :D

if any1 is to blame - it would be me goading u into doing it cos of its 'coolness' factor - my bad mate

Nate

no problem ,just a minor setback. i am more disappointed than anything. but i had to cut it in half anyways so i thought why not try to make it work.

anyways, back to work!!!!

Tom,

You are doing an awesome job on this project! I must say that it takes a lot of patience and great talent to make something out of nothing! Keep up the good work! :cheers (y):)

thanks for the replies ,guys

update i joined the front and back together. i raised the brow up to meet the viser. started on the triangle on the chin. got the place where the viser and helmet meet to go together better. started cutting out the vents to make the wall of the helmet go into the vent like in the screen shots. not just stop where the vent starts. i have also started the greeblies for the breathers but the little filter is under and inch of rtv rubber right now or i would show you. some of the lines are just penciled in.

thanks for the comments , the the top of the triangle is crooked. no problem ,i took it of and sanded the snout to be more flat inside the reccess of the snout.

lookin good Tom

centre triangle looks all straightened up.

is the right sided flare still needing work? may be the piccie, still looks a bit 'off'

wot did u do with thickness of the visor? did you thin it out? thought it looked ok as it was.

2 weeks - wow that quick mate

i thinned out the viser, 2 weeks is alot of time for me. between this and my tattoo shop ,i work almost 7 days a week. i will sleep when i am dead.

i will fix the right side.
i ahve sun, and wed off so they are my major work days on this stuff.

i have the transition mold for the chest done. just have do a casting of it to start cleaning it up for the master mold.

here is the chest rough sculpt out of the mold to be worked on to turn it into the master.
and some armor pieces fresh out of the molds>>>> please excuse the mess i call my casting table .

update, i cut put the lens part to try to get a clean return edge and i cut out the snout to do the same. also about finished with the greeblies. i tried to make the helmet thinner at the jaw line. because reference shows the little side pieces go all the way to the bottom of the helmet and the flares do not go past them. i also filled in the vents under the eyes because i felt they did not look right. i also cut the vents in the back on the bottom. that was my day.

i am almost finished with this helemt, now it is at the clean up stage. if anybady has any points to make about the shape or what have you, now is the time.
