Here is my Hasbro Clone helmet Conversion

Well following HeadlessHunters thread I decided to make my own to show my progress so far. I am in the beginning stages and need to head out to purchase body filler to fill the seams, etc.

Here are some pictures of where I am at. Thanks HeadlessHunter for the encouragement!!!

Looks geat! I'm going to do mine soon. I love seeing these conversions!!! Keep up the great work. I'll be stuck to this thread and along with HeadlessHunters.

Thanks alot!

One thing I noticed when comparing this to the actual CGI helmet in the movie, which a 501st recruiter person would be looking for accuracy in comparison to that, I realized that this helmet although is not 100% accurate, is at least 60% accurate, you do have to do some work to make it good enough, if the 501st doesnt mind some minor innacuracies.

I dont know the actual size of the real helmet, but even if this was actual size, the helmet is too long from the front to the back, the width looks to be a little too small from ear to ear but that can be fixed. I mean, this helmet isnt small like a DP or Rubies, its fairly big for what it is and can be a great substitute for one of those expensive vacuformed, or fiberglass helmets. Even if you dont want complete accuracy, just a nice clone helmet on a budget, this is right for you, with minor mods you can make this look pretty neat.

Ill post up comparison pictures later.

man I will def be watching this thread now too. these helmets look awesome when done right. I cant wait to see everyones progress

Alright so here are two comparison pictures of only the side.

PLEASE NOTE!!!!!!
These measurements were used assuming this helmet is movie sized, which I doubt it is, but if you want it to look like the movie, these are the things you should do to yours.

First up is the raw unedited comparison pic.

Second is the One with the changes that need to happen.

I am not necesarilly making this movie accurate, as I am not joining the 501st with a clone, but these are just some helpful hints as to what needs to be fixed for sure.

Brilliant, another one!! Good luck with your conversion as I said I've really enjoyed mine and like you I'm not trying to make it 100% accurate, just wanted a clone helmet that has the AOTC look to it, one thing you have done that I still need to address is the visor, I need to narrow mine down in the corners, keep it up!! (y)

I have the bodyfiller!!!! Yay..he can finally start modding it!!!

Well not quite. I am out of town and wont be back until a few more days....

I would suggest not using body filler fully on the cheeks, id suggest building it up with plastic and making it flush, and using the body filler just to fill where it connects.

Right on though, nice project:)

Yep thats one thing I forgot to mention, less waste = better result, and easier to work with.

I'm going to be doing that... I'd guess around $100 worth of silicone, probably $50 in misc. other stuff (outer jacket material, brushes, mold release...).
ah. not too bad. I want to do a couple cause noticed in the movie that rex's coloring is actually indented into his helmet. and I'm thinking that might be a pain to do on this helmet but if I make a cast of it it would be alot easier. the same with cody.

i'm actually thinking that for the indented look (if i go that route), i'll do layered painting.

paint the dome blue, mask the "eyes", then paint the white, and peel it off. should be a neat looking effect.

just the eyes though. the rest of it i'll do the blue on top, since having all the blue indented would look odd.

Be sure to post up your progress!

Well I have been very busy the last four or five days but the weekend is here and I am back to fill and sand haha. Here are some progress photos.

For some odd reason the bondo I got was not as smooth as normal, and the color was off. I guess it was a bad batch.

Looking good, 9'. I love the idea of using a garage sale sign (ie .20 gauge styrene) for the visor build up. You must have a tremendous amount of patience. However, since I don't, I'm trying a slightly different tactic.

I created a template for a styrene visor that actually goes on top of the cheeks to reduce the overall size of the visor.

It's a much quicker, but obviously, not quite as professional, way to mod. Might be good for the lesser experienced Clones in the group.

Anyway, check out my progress at my blog. I'd love any comments or questions.

Thanks!
