Face Paint Maul

Bleahhh

Active Hunter
I made me-self some horns out of putty

And i used a bald cap for my head.

After applying alll the face paint:

I tried to stick the horns on using spirit gum as suggested by another maul site.

However they seem to still drop off, despite holding them in place for almost 3 mins each....they seem to be less adhesive esp on the bald cap...any one can help get them attached more securely??

Can you not glue them onto the bald cap?
the ones for te ones that stick to your face, try the spirit gum BEFORE you apply the warpaint.

hmmm.but if i glu then on the bald cap, when i take them ff or put it on, the blad cap would be 'loose' and creased....will it still stick?

To get cleaner makeup lines, make stencils out of those blank white face masks you can find at a Halloween store (cheap, too!). Just draw your design onto those, and carefully cut out the stencils with a sharp X-Acto knife.

I used one for the forehead, one for the nose and cheeks, and one for the chin.

Total makeup application time: 15 minutes!

You'll not get creases if you glue them on while the baldcap is on your head.
And I don't know if it'll stick, I've never tried it.
Can't see see not though - just be sure to find a glue that won't eat the plastic of the blad cap ;)

Thnks fot eh suggestion! i know i look like SMudge Maul...that was like a first attempt by mysef..hehz..

thanks nocturn!

To reduce the shine use some baby powder with a make-up pad/puff this will help put a light coat of powder. Keep doing this and it will also help set the make-up and reduce the shine.

Don't worry about the smudges in time you will get the hang of it and you'll be able to put on the make-up with your eyes closed...:rolleyes... ok so maybe with one-eye opened.

Good luck

The best make-up would be Reel Creations, it's the same make-up used for Maul for EPI. Not to mention the trusted make-up for this Maul. A bit pricey but worth every cent! (y)

Here you go the first pic should be my fourth attempt with Ben Nye cream make-up, the second is my 2nd attempt with Reel Creations and an air brush. The pic Spidey has is my 3rd attempt with hand painting Reel Creations.

If you're on a budget, try 'Snazzeroo' (I think I spelled it right).
It's what folk at faires use for face painting kids.
It's also what most LARPers in the UK use when they're being orcs or weird tribal dudes with odd facial tattoos.

Bleahhh: From what I remember of helping my friend ScottMaul with his Maul makeup, we would sponge on the red then paint in the black - leaving the horn areas free of makeup. He also used something new besides the spirit gum to attach the horns ... and now I can't remember what it is... :( I'll try to find out in the next couple of days for you!

RudydarthG - That looks 1000% better! Wow! Excellent Maul! :D

He might use pro's aide or another form of adhesive. I use pro's aide and as long as you follow directions your good to go.

Thanks MaulMaus, there's still room for improvement, but there is still hope since I just picked up the Holy Grail of Boots! Frank Thomas 101!!!! :cheers

That IS the Holy Grail of DM Boots!!! Congrats on the find! (y) So... where's pics of the whole costume huh? :D

I don't think it was Pro's Aide... but I know it is an adhesive. Unfortunately, I've only gotten voice mail... will keep trying. I know the Spirit Gum worked until one day one of the horns fell off in the middle of trooping. It was not a pretty site...

I got you beat I was dueling with a Jedi and he knocked off one of the Horns that was slipping cuz the Spirit Gum could not stay put with my sweaty Head. :cry

I have to re-do the suit this time I'm going for as close to perfect as I can afford. Will post pics once it's done.

Here's my last attempt. Probably the best I've gotten done so far. The makeup was applied by myself and a friend who also does Maul. We used a makeup type similar to Ben Nye. I usually put the horns on well before any makeup gets near those areas, spirit gum can work very well, but sweat is a real killer to the bonding agent. I've been offered medical glue, but that could be really really painful! Oh yeah.. Bald is the only way to do the character justice!

I need to redo the robes, gauntlets and look at the Reel Creations make up. But it is hard to get it shipped over to New Zealand! The makeup I use goes on easy enough, but rubs off around the neck and eyes just as quickly!

I got lucky early on and got a pair of 101's from the UK.. even in my size! ₤45.. though shipping was ₤60! Still a long way to go though!
