E2 Clonetrooper Pilot Tutorial

The chest box is done and the helmet is also almost finished.
We are going to attach the chin piece and glue the black mesh and padding into the helmet.
I like to wait to glue the visor in last since we still need to airbrush the weathering.

Use the same method as before and add a wood dowel to the chin pieces. Attach the chin piece
to the helmet with hot glue.

Also hot glue the black mesh in the mouth. Be really careful with the hot glue, trust me it will burn
you really bad if it comes in contact with your skin. You can use a air compressor to cool the hot
glue quicker which really speeds the process along. Just don't spray directly at the hot glue, you don't
want it to splatter while its still hot.

All that is now left is adding the weathering, visor and hoses.
If your kit came with hoses you will need to paint them black. I have since found a better type of hose
that is thinner and will work much better for trooping. Here is the link. You will need 4’ of the 3/4” hose.

We will move onto weathering the helmet. I like to use a airbrush for this.
You don't need a real expensive airbrush, I use a Paasche 2000H H single action airbrush.
You can get them on ebay for around $50.00. You will need a air compressor to run it.
Like I said before, I use the water based acrylic paint. I used Engine Black on these helmet.
Lightly airbrush all the areas that would appear to collect dirt and grime if used for a period of time. The weathering is really a bit darker than it appears in the photos. The flash has washed it out.

Once finished, you can knock down the colors a bit with some really fine sandpaper.
I like to add the steaks and marks with a paint brush. A kitchen sponge also works great.
Also hot glue your visor in along with the helmet padding.
You can check out the final weathering on the next post.

All that is left is the final weathering and attaching the hoses.
Weather your helmet to match your suit. If your suit is lightly weather then your helmet should also be.
As you can see I also created a Matchstick version from the animated Clone Wars series. I painted the mouth
black and made the weathering a little darker for this helmet.
All three of these finished helmet and box combos are for sale for only $425.00. The finished complete busts
can also be purchased for a additional $100.00.

Add the hoses to the back of the helmet. They are made to screw on and should stay in place just fine while trooping.

The other end of the hose will slip right onto the curved connectors.

The chest box was designed to attach to the suit by magnets. Place the chest box into desired spot
and place the 3 loose magnets on the inside of the chest. Hot glue these to the inside of your chest piece.
You now have the option to get 3 different looks out of one suit. E2 Grunt, E2 Pilot or E3 Grunt.

Thanks again for all the kind words and comments!
Now that this is finished look for a new tutorial real soon, I will be doing a complete Clonetrooper build!

Best stuff and certainly best service !!! :) I am sure the other two sets would go really really quick... cannot get any better than that... Much thanks, Darren !!!

I'll second that vote! Have absolutely no fear of doing business with DW Design! Not only does he provide you with excellent kits, his willingness to provide you with technical assistance is beyond compare! The DWD C6 Kits are FANTASTIC!!! Get one!!!

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1303345802.728051.jpgHere's a shot of my nearly completed Pilot which followed Darren's tutorial nearly every step of the way. I deviated a bit and painted the frown last, which is missing in this shot.

Here is another couple of helmets I just finished. The E2 Shocktrooper was just for fun and the Matchstick I did it for a local 501st member.

I'm not sure if you still make the clone pilot helmet kits but I have bought the kit from you before and I need to buy new parts for it.
