Converting to TD. FINISHED!!! see last post

Jango 5204

Active Hunter
I've had this AP kit for a little over a year. I never got around to applying for Elite Deployment at FISD.:facepalm I'm taking the plunge and going to MEPD. Tear off the ab details, change the knee plate, lose the shoulder straps and I'm good. Other small details like the helmet, but those are the biggies. I'm also doing the conversion to the DL-19. I've already made the steel box and need to get the T-track. It's a work in progress. The weathering has several steps and takes awhile to complete.

I raised the brow trim and yanked the ab details off.

Not too shabby. I am dying to do another sandy... been on the my "to do" list for a long long time. I loved my sandy but if I did another there are so many things I would do differently! Seeing yours sure doesn't help quell my desire to have another!!!(y)

Thanks all. I know it's not perfect, what needs to be improved????? Is it too dirty, or needs to be decreased in the seams?

Actually, I think your weathering captures the late stage (studio) sandtrooper look very well.

Thanks Art and Nathan. Next weekend I'll get the knee plate and weathering all done, then shoot a couple in the sun. Can you two check back next weekend after I've posted and let me know? It's near impossible to get anything done during my work week.:angry

Thanks again guys. Nathan PM coming.......

Agreed, very nice weathering, I have had my TE2 suit sitting around for too long, I sometimes reach the stage where I consider making it a Sandtrooper, you have really captured the look with your weathering, nice job (y)

Don't forget to remove the details in the teardrops and the back grey sections of the helmet, they are just grey with no stripes in them for TD's

AWSOME! I think if I get a Stormie, I'll most proboly deffintly consider going Sandy. You did an excellent job on the weathering, I can't wait to see finished pics! :cheers

Looking good. You've got a nice amount of dirt in the seams, nooks and crannies. Your belt shows the detail really well since protruding edges usually have less dirt since they get rubbed on things and the crevices stay dirty and built up; sort of the reverse of paint weathering where the paint wears off of the protruding edges and stays in the crevices. Keep that technique throughout the suit and it will look authentic. (y)

Weathering the TD armor is a matter of personal choice. Some like it light and others like it filthy. There are a number of different ways to apply the product, you just have to find one that works best for you.

I recently got an AP kit and am starting the same process. I was wondering what you did for the three ab plate buttons... what did you use for those? And where did you get the MG34 kit? IMA seems out of them and I am not sure where else to look -- or is yours a resin replica? Did you trim the seam on the front of the dome to get the rubber brow to bend upwards or did you fiddle with the placement of the drill holes to get the face plate to drop down a tad? I've been wondering about which would be better. Yours looks nice.

And nice weathering. Be sure to update when its done. Like to see it in the sun.
