501st Clone Helmet Build-up

I was sent a Clone helmet by a friend who wanted it built and painted up in the style of the 501st troopers, here I will be documenting the whole process and perhaps it will be helpful for anyone else doing a build up, I will pop in later and show off a few pre-paint photos and then the fun can really start (y)

I dunno, you guys have no appreciation for people who do shift work lol  This'll keep you quiet for about an hour whilst I sand down the rough spots that I applied filer to, then I will be back (y)

I believe its an MR recast, it was quite thin in places and I had to do a lot of work to build up the fin as it was full of pits and a tad warped, here it is now after sanding, filing, sanding, priming, sanding, filing again and finally priming

A bit more surgery was required when I realised the back 'grill' detail was completely missing and there was a large blob of resin in one of the corners which was an absolute shoot to get rid of  once I'd ground most of that away I set about scratch building the grill detail, its not 100% accurate but its a darn sight better than it was, now onto the real painting (y)
