Hello from Vancouver Island!

Hello everyone! I'm Colin!

I've been browsing this site for sometime, but felt it was time to get a little more involved with the TDH community.

Of course, like many, I'm aspiring to a Boba costume. But this will likely be one step at a time. Not so much a financial decision. I'm more interested in weighing the individual options of specific parts, what's readily available, quality and reviews.

...also, my artistic side for weathering armor is untested! Best to take it as slow as I can!

I've recently completed my first TK armor over the last six months. Had a 7 hour troop in that over Halloween night! Also finished a PVC mannequin for it this week. Working on a custom E-11 blaster while I research all the angles of the upcoming Fett project!

Welcome aboard!!
Live in Abbotsford BC here. Good to see ya!
Take your time, search and research and you will, without a doubt, find what you need here. The people are are insanely, insanely helpful and are downright awesome to be around. Corny paraphrase "you will never find a more pleasant hive of friendly and helpful people"....ok...that may have been too much, but what can I say, I'm in a pretty groovy mood right now. lol

Enjoy your stay!

J

Thanks!

Yeah, time and patience are both on the menu for this project. I'm basically reading all I can, searching key words for items I want to learn more about, scanning pictures, etc. If I tried to amalgamate all the info on all the costume components I'd be bleeding from my eyes! :p

So there's absolutely no shortage of info on here. The opinions and reviews are really coming in handy when deciding what to look for. I'll keep reading on and I'm sure if I ever have a question, I'm sure it will make it into the forums, but I just don't want to ask a load of noob questions that are already out there.

Maybe I'll have this thing ready for this Halloween! But something tells me that I may need a little extra time!

You never know! 10 months isn't unreasonable to put a Fett together, depending on what you decide to work with and go for. There are so many amazingly talented crafters here, that your head will spin! Best bet is to look around at what everyone's done and who offers what and you'll learn pretty quickly the way you want to go. I have zero experience in painting or fabricating Fett, I purchased everything all painted up and I had the task of putting it together to fit me for wearing and THAT was rough enough, but even then there wasn't any shortage of tips, tricks and info to be found here. You'll be just fine. I hope to see work in progress or finished showoff pics!! ;)

I guess time with tell! But better to start sooner than later as far as this suit is concerned. I now have friends interested in my TK suit now that they know a Fett is on the way. It's a pity they don't understand the amount of time, sweat, blood and occasional f-bombs that go into these. It's probably what makes it so addictive!

I've considered purchasing pre-painted gear. As intimidating as painting your own is, it still sounds like an awesome project to take on. So the hard armor pieces will likely be purchased last.

You wouldn't happen to know how PayPal is typically used on TDH, do you? My only experience with it is through eBay.

Welcom to the fray, Vod. Interested to see how your project goes. :)

As far as using paypal on TDH goes.... Mainly you pm someone w/ interest toward purchasing a good/service they're offering. They contact you in return, providing their paypal address, the rest is basically good faith, research, caution, and reputation. If you're unsure of a vendor, contact a few people you trust on here, and see what they have to say about them.

I've purchased alot of things from alot of different people on this site, and have yet to be let down.

Make sure you read to Cargo Hold terms and guidelines. :)

Thanks for the info! I figure that with a community like this appearing pretty close knit, any vendor/buyer who starts screwing other people around will eventually find their reputation on the line. I've read through a few older threads illustrating that point. Many of the products look amazing so I'll hope I end up with a similar experience in my purchases!

I'll take a look at the guidelines tonight.

I think you hit the nail on the head. If there's one thing that I've learned since joining TDH, its that all the members here take it very personally whne someone takes advantage of any other members here. And this is probably the most close knit internet community I've ever been a part of (and I've belonged to more than a few lol).
