Happy New Year from Scotland

RufusFett

New Hunter
Hi to all on TDH, and I hope you all had a great time over the holiday period. I have been keen on The Greatest Bounty Hunter in the galaxy, and after seeing that a Boba Fett picture is slotted for 2020 (possibly). I have decided that I will build the kit as per ESB. I come to this fresh and green to be honest, as I have no previous experience of building anything on this scale before. So bear with me if I do ask stupid questions. Which I will probably will. I have never used this type of board before, as I have confined myself to FB and YouTube so I have been kind of spoon-fed as such. So I am still not really sure on where to look, but I will fathom it out. So my first stupid question is (Drum Roll, please! :) ) I have noticed that a few brand names are used within these pages, Has anyone here in the UK got a list of equivalent brands? Thanks in advance for any responses to this. Cheers

Welcome to a fellow Scot.
The only one I can think of is Bondo == P38 car body filler. What else are you stuck on?
I used the Antman tutorial to make a ROTJ helmet and then used all the other tutorials to make the additions to my flightsuit which I made from a white boiler suit and dyed grey. Still got to finish the jetpack and lots of other fiddly bits.
You are definitely in the right place :)

Hi Rufus, I'm new to the forum as a poster but have a little knowledge on models etc. The main issue I have is sourcing parts. The bobamaker site seems to have a lot of accurate gear and at reasonable prices too.

If its more the art side and materials you are looking for, there are lots of tutorials and recommended materials on here. The 'Lewis White FX' vids on YouTube are a really informative watch and break down the stages needed to prep a helmet, as well as paint, carbon paper/templates, masking fluid and layering techniques... Really handy and transferable to other parts of the build.

What particular brands were you having problems with?

Thanks, FettBoy. I am just trying to gather all that I need to be honest to make the kit. I just wasn't sure on the materials for the helmet and armour to use. I want it to pass the grade and look right, I have a limited budget so want to make sure that the money I use is well spent. Typical Scotsman ;). I will certainly look at Antman's tutorial, thanks for the pointers.

Cheers Parker,

I will check Lewis White FX out. I have read a bit and have seen Sintra being talked about and was just getting a bit confused on trade names. I want to make sure that the armour looks its thick enough.
Cheers

Sintra is an American brand as far as I'm aware. A.B.S plastic is what you want to look at, alternatively there is foamed PVC (6mm). I'm not knowledgeable on what's best to use if I'm honest, but I would probably look at fibreglass or some sort of resin reinforcement to any material that is subject to warping or losing its shape.

I haven't made anything from scratch myself, but I would use the either of the above as its easy to form, then reinforce for strength... You don't really want painted items to flex more than necessary as it will lead to damaged paint and possible splits/cracking.

Hope this helps.

Hey mate, welcome to the forums, hope you enjoy your stay. I'm also in Scotland myself, there's a few Fetts up here. You can get sheets of Foamex here in the UK which is foam PVC, pretty much the UK version of Sintra. If you need any help be sure to give us a shout. Good luck with your build :)
