Idea for custom mando

For a custom mando, rangefinders are not a must. Someone else did a custom with a cloak like that awhile back, but I can't remember who it was.

There have been so many different range-finder mods that I can't count them on both hands =D If you don't do an RF though, my advice is to atleast put a small antenna there or something so it doesn't look like you just left it off.

i was thinking a collapsible rangefinder if you know what i mean so you can still have the rf and a cloak, and extend it when necessary, and still fold it down in fornt of t-visor!

What would be cool is if you could make one like a motorized antenna, where it extends up or slides down upon itself. Even if you had to do the extending and pulling out yourself, thats probably the best way you could make it work...and work well.

I know that mandos are different but I just figured that they would have a stealth detachment coloured like the black hole trooper for sensitive missions

Obviously it is in the realm of the Star Wars universe so it would make sense that black=stealth, after all, ninja wear black.

In reality, black will make you stick out more in the dark. Most black clothing is actually much darker than the surrounding darkness/lack of light. Truth be told, you'd be more difficult to see if you were wearing something that was more neutral like Olive drab. Even woodland camouflage would fare better than black in low light conditions, simply because you're never in complete darkness. You'll argue that many swat and even the navy SEALs wear black, and it's actually mostly for the intimidation factor. The SEALs wear black because most of the time that's the color of the wetsuit they're issued, but most often they would wear grey or OD for urban operations, and if I'm not mistaken LA swat has now switched to Navy blue for their uniform. But I'm going off on a tangent again ;p

Regardless of the reasons for the black color choice, most, if not all the reasons everyone has given above do make sense for not going "all black" and I think the most valid one has to do with photography and lighting. You'll argue that Vader is "all black" but in fact it's not true, he has many silver/grey highlights, and the chestbox does a good job of contrasting with the rest of the costume.

An all black mandalorian is a nice idea in concept, and in fact there are a few out there that went with the construction of a full set. I'm not one to discourage you, but I'd suggest you at least follow some of the advice/suggestions everyone has pointed above.

that raises another issue, should i have a helmet with or without the rangefinder?, if i go without it gives me an excuse to wear a huge cloak like darth mauls!!! with the hood up hiding the mando armor and sniper rifle, also wasnt walon vau a bit of a sociopath, likethe monk from mean machine just in mando armor lol!

just a side note does anyone find my avatar a little overbearing?
with the whole bright flashy light stuff!
I do, and especially if I was epileptic.

I had like five seizures just reading this thread.

One thing I've been wanting to see is someone include a visor to their helmet, similar to scout troopers. A paintball mask visor might work nicely.

lol, i hope no one reading this has epilepsy
also just for thinking for contrast, aswell as doing a dark grey around the helmet mandibles, could instill a chrome tinted visor?if thats what its called, like a one way mirror visor! which would contrast well with the rest of the bucket!

i think its called two-way mirrored acrylic if anybody could help me locate a supplier/retailer in the uk that sells sheets of it i would be really greatfull!

If you are wanting an idea of what all black armor will look like I've got some pics of my armor up. I've done Walon Vau from the republic commando series with the help of Karen Traviss through e-mail correspondance.

While the black scheme is nice...I think it's becoming very over-done.

Stealth doesn't necessary mean "black on black". Just like camo doesn't mean leaf or realtree.

There are TONS of color combination that work well in the dark: Dark reds, greens, blues, and browns are extremely nice working and practical for night running mandos. Something else to think about is doing a "Dazzle" pattern on your armor. Basically creating multiple shapes of color on your kit to break up your outline. This works well for anyone out in the open, in urban areas, or even fliers. Below is a pic from a WW2 era ship with dazzle camo.

Not that you'll do this but the SAS used a pink landrover for years that blended in in desert environments and was almost invisible to the naked eye at night.
Just a random peice of info.

HOW ABOUT A CARBON FIBER FETT???:eek:(y)(y)
That would be uber cool!!! black soft parts and carbon fiber armor....yepp...that would just blow my mind...:D:D:D
