A Helmet For A Marine

You guys want some metal upper armor for this? I'll cut, dish, and paint it out for ya. Just need height and weight. Unfortunately, my schedule of appearances and armor underway already is just to full for anything else atm. I'll do a full chest, gut, collar, and shoulder bells. Hard to do a more accurate back with no cast to fit it with.

Also, do the concept up in the new MandoMaker 2.0. MandoMaker 2.0

Again, thank you for all of your responses, input and support.. This is one of those ideas thats developed a lot faster than I ever thought it would... Sorry I'm just getting around to responded to a lot of comments here..

Let's see if we can get others here to donate

Considering my budget here this would be an amazing help, but I certainly don't have any expectations.. I've gotten a ton support and inspiration for just the helmet from the responses to this thread!! Thanks again to every one who's responded..

hey, i've offered to paint the helmet

I'm sorry I didn't recognize your first post about that as an actual offer, thought it was kind of hypothetical.. I'll PM you and maybe we can discuss that more :)

have you thought of using Mando'a instead of aburesh?

I would need a much better understanding of Mando'a to spell out things like his name, his company, etc.. I was always under the impression that aburesh was the standard lettering system in the Star Wars universe, so anything written in Mando'a would still use the aburesh lettering symbols.. For example the quote on the back of helmet a Mando'a quote, with the aburesh font applied.. If this isn't correct please let me know!

i'd suggest that you keep the ribbons on the side, but make them larger, more killstripe sized.

I plan to keep them on the left side of the helmet as the range finder would be in the way on the opposite side.. As for enlarging them I'm hesitant to make them any larger than they appear on the actual uniform, they're likely not in the right scale right now and will get a little bigger, but I'd like them to remain the same size as the real ribbons.. I will line them up in a line I think, while thats now how its done on the uniform for this application I think some exceptions might need to be made.. The Purple Heart ribbon will likely have to go in the middle as the ribbons is white on the sides with purple in the middle the white background of the helmet wouldn't work very well.. If this idea of developing an entire uniform keeps developing I will have to rethink several things about the helmet..

Livewire, I used the mando-maker here:

Great start! Very well put together, thank you!! I will start tooling around with a full suit if nothing else just for fun, and we'll see what happens..

Just wanted to say that. Really impressed with how classy and smart the design looks.

Thanks for that, I've always seen the dress blues uniform in the Marine Corps is a big symbol of pride for Marines and I really want this helmet (or full suit *dreams*) to be a real reflection of that..

I'll keep playing with ideas anyone wants to put out there, try to get a nice final design on the helmet and/or start work on the full suit.. It will take me a little while to come up with a workable drawing but I'll get something up as soon as I do, along with any helmet updates that are post worthy.. Thanks again to everyone out there, keep 'em coming!!

Sorry Saint Nasty, I read that you volunteered to paint the helmet, but I forgot to mention it.

NovallTalon, body armor would be awesome!

I could ship the suit to Ladysewforus so she can add the thigh pouches, shin tool pockets and a red blood stripe to it. ;) Assuming a 42 Regular would fit our Marine. BTW, I added the blood stripe to this pic.

Looks like we need gauntlets, ammo belt, girth belt, knee armor, cape and boots. :cheers

Great efforts everyone!

I can only hope that I can find some way to help donate to this cause...
a Marine Mandalorian would be the most kick *** being in any galaxay... Foreign... or Demestic... or Far Far Away...

Wow everyone, these are some really big offers.. I'm really at a loss, except to say thank you again.. This is a great community of people here!

Back to work on that drawing!

Live, can you find out what size he is? The suit Southern Hunter has is a 42 Regular. Do you think that would fit him? Maybe you could find out without letting out the surprise, Maybe a family member could help? When you get some sizing info, please let me know.
We are not trying to rush you, but happy to put our two cents worth into to someone who has put everything he has into defending our country!

I will work on a way to get any measurements I can.. I'm pretty sure I can recruit his parents into getting me sizing on this actual dress uniform as I believe its stored at their house.. Basic info for now though he's 6'0" and (ballpark) 165-175lbs.. I'll see what I can dig up over the next few days but can't promise a quick turn around.. I'd say this is a bit more than just putting in your two cents, so thank you for that!

Welp, its a pretty rough drawing, and very basic.. but heres the concept I came up with.. We're missing ribbons/medals, rank insignias, belt details, possibly red striping on the upper torso.. and obviously gauntlets and boots.. Lots and lots of details to be added, just thought I'd get something out there to get some more input..

Let me know what you think :)

If you're going to go with the armor, why not go ahead and place his ribbons and medals on the chest armor where it would be anyways? And perhaps put his Sgt rank on the shoulder bells. An attachment idea for the armor to the vest could be gold buttons, to signify the gold buttons on the uniform.
Ladysewforus, could you put red piping around the top and bottom of the neck seal and around the vest? That's one of the recognizable features of the uniform, the red piping lining the edges of the jacket.

i'm cool, i was just putting that out there just to make sure that you knew that i'd be willing to paint it. hell, i'm almost ready to pm sgtfang and order a helmet for this.

Exactly what I planned to do, simply haven't gotten around to the details for the full suit yet.. I think the red piping is pretty important, and I'll find a way to work it in there.. I'll have a more detailed version finished tomorrow.. I love the attachment idea! Was thinking about how to incorporate those gold buttons, another significant feature of the real uniform, and thats a very good solution.. As I said, plenty of work to be done to get the concept down right, this first picture is just a very basic general idea..

Got rolling on the drawing and made up another concept..

I think the red pipping adds a lot to the overall look, along with some of the other updates.. It comes together a little better.. I really think the gold buttons need to be a feature, but not totally sure on the pattern to use (where to put them).. Updated the rest of the helmet angles, and fixed the font for the text on the helmet.. Still need to do the medals as well.. Critique away, it needs it!

They look great where you put them. I like the line of them down the belly. Did you intentionally put the ribbons on the right side instead of the left?

Could even throw in some red/gold "wookie braids" :-D

Red gauntlets and red knee armor would be my suggestions.

I'll cook up a drawing with the missing equipment and test out those colors, thanks for the suggestion!

Heh, fail... sorry, I get rolling and stop paying attention I think.. Its mostly because the reference photo I was working with looks that way, which is confusing.. My guess its that this photo got flipped horizontally at some point and I never noticed..

A few questions for the Marines, or anyone else that knows.. Are the EGA's on the neck mirrored like I have them, like theres a left and a right one, or are they both oriented the same way? And whats the significance of the green braided cord on the shoulder, should it be included? Thanks! Anyone else with ideas, let me know!

yes..
the Globe and Anchors are mirrored, there is one left and one right...

I'd personally stay with the gold Knee armor as opposed to the Red... looks more... feels more Dress Blues to me.

the Green braid is a unit thing. Not needed to complete Dress Blues.

oh and before I forget... Medals do go over the left Breast as in your latest reference picture... not over the right like you have in your concept drawing above... (which if you are JUST doing ribbons in place of the medals is where you should put them...)
the ribbons over his right breast have no medal equivilents... if he were just to wear his ribbons on his blues (ie no medals) they would be on his left side... (your first reference image of the corporal has it correct)

Sohryu76, Sorry, bare with me here.. just want to make sure I'm understanding this correctly.. Considering the cost of all the medals or the complexity of painting them if we did a full suit I would probably just use the ribbons (use ribbon equivalents of each medal).. Those would be placed on the left side because there wouldn't be any medals.. Ribbons come at a much lower cost and I could probably find a way using the mounting bar system to mount the actual ribbons on the breast plate (instead of vinyl decals, or painted).. Thanks for the info!!
