Custom Mando Sniper

BobaDebt

Jr Hunter
Ok, I have finally got enough stuff together to start a thread of my own.

I came to this forum with the intention of creating a boba fett suit, but since being here I have seen how awesome the custom mandos look and thought it would be a great exercise in weathering / damage techniques for when I finally start the boba.

So, Intro over here is my idea for the custom mando.

I wanted to create a sniper type armor (any excuse to build a MASSIVE gun :D) I like to think this is a more specialist skill than general infantry, more suited to a mando. This got me thinking what sort of gadgets the suit would include. I want to create a RF on steroids as well as a ridiculous sniper rifle, I'm also looking to have some sort of sophisticated tracking/ mapping computer of one of the gauntlets and have already started working on the close range weapon (possibly flame thrower) for the other gaunt. Another feature I will be focusing on is the cape, I want it to be full length and possibly include a hood to help hide my deadly assassin.

So far I have the chest armor and one gauntlet made.

Let me know what you think, and ANY suggestions would be great.

Nice concept there. Good to see you already have something done. With the color scheme are you trying to place your Mando as a desert sniper? You have a lot of camoflauge going on there. Maybe you could put in some desert looking items onto your Mando. Like a souviner from a desert animal you killed. Keep it up and keep us posted.

Thanks Nevu,

I love the Idea of souvenirs, not quite sure why it has ended up as a desert scheme, mainly because i already had some of the paints and a tan jumpsuit lying around so i figured I should get some use of out of them instead of buying anything new.

I understand. Same thing happened with me and my jumpsuit. You could always dye the suit another color. But I do not know much about that. I dont know how much it would cost, how much time and effort. But I've seen some people do that.
Maybe you could be a contract killer who kills tusken raiders that are attacking villages and causing chaos?

I was thinking of making a broken end of a Gaffi Stick and hang it from my belt, and maybe some sarlac teeth/horns/spike things. I'm really starting to steer more to the hired assassin type route, maybe I'll spice up the armor with a subtly different second colour.?

Thanks for the ideas, all very helpful, I tend to get stuck into one idea so its good to have some outside input.

Unfortunately i have work the next 2 days so i dont have much time until friday, think I will use the next few days to figure out my gauntlets and come up with a sweet RF.

For the gauntlets I was thinking of doing some thing similar to the female bounty hunter in the forthcoming Old Republic game.

Here's the link -
(she has a pretty awesome helmet too (y) )

And some screenshots.

She does have an awesome bucket! A'den is doing a build on that bucket and it's pretty cool.

Your concept is very sniper-like! Looks like he'd blend in with his surroundings like THAT. :D Well done on your top armor, the weathering is great.

Thanks Ordeyn,
I'm not quite finished with the weathering yet , I need to touch up the blaster shots and dirty the whole thing but I'm seriously considering a second colour on the armor, so I think i will wait until that's decided before I do any more details.

I'm also changing the gauntlets and ordering the bucket this weekend so hopefully more pics soon.

Ok, just a small bit of progress but I'm pretty pleased with my current "vision" of the final thing.

I decided the gauntlets needed to change so i began work on my computer/navigation/tracking gaunt. I've pretty much got the shape, which I wanted to mimic the cheek section of the helmet, just need to fill a bit more, spruce it up and paint but I think I have a good base to build on now.

Let me know what you all think, the lights on the side were a last minute idea not 100% sure.

*** PLUS - found some old plumbing fittings which I think I will turn into thermal detonators.:D

Nice! I see how the front sections sort of looks like the cheeks on the helmet. Good idea there. No input all I can say is wow! And I look forward to see those thermal detenators!

A friend of mine came up with an awesome suggestion which will be my project for tomorrow!
I will be changing my gauntlet yet again!!! I'm keeping with my current design mostly but this time I'm resizing everything to enable me to slide my IPhone in to the gauntlet so I have a real touch screen, just been playing around and google earth app looks great as a tracking system.:love

Could be promising, I've drawn up a very quick plan to try and explain how i intend to do this, Pics tomorrow hopefully.

I did something like that with my LG Dare in my gaunt...it works really well, cept it's kinda hard to hit the screen with gloves on...you end up hitting EVERYTHING but what you wanted to hit.

Give it a try though! It looks really cool and makes the gear feel more realistic. (y)

Love the iphone idea. Hope it works out. Any progress? And about your concern about the phone getting to much damage. You could just put a piece thats flips over it. Or with that piece that flips over, you could place a small gun on top to disguise it. Just an idea.

I like the work you're doing. I think it's interesting that you were thinking of doing this as practice for your Boba work--I think what you did to weather your torso armor came out quite nicely. Maybe a little grime now? Anyway, I wanted to throw in a little warning: it's very easy to start dreaming of two, then three, then six, then ten different suits/looks/versions. I have so many in the works now that I haven't finished a single set of anything. You start out thinking sniper, then you think desert sniper, then add a different color/weapon and it could be an assassin--well, why not both? And so it goes. It's actually a good kind of sickness to have, all things considered. Just diverts attention from completing something. I'm always impressed with some of the artists here who design something, put the pieces together, build and make, complete, and then move on to the next thing. Never been able to do it, myself.

Anyway, I dig your colors. One day (haha), I'll finish a design I have with colors similar to what you have above. One of the things it's been hard for me to get into my head is how Fett's colors don't really match, but they go together, if that makes sense. A little accent of color here or there goes a long way. And don't get too hung up on color schemes for certain climates. A sniper would tell you that camouflage is what you do when you get there. Even on our planet, we have red deserts and tan deserts and even remarkable green deserts. It's also easier, from a moving standpoint, to have small or light weight souvenirs versus big things. I've made a gaffi stick, and I can't imagine any piece of it that wouldn't be uncomfortable to have hanging from my belt. Teeth or claws on cord makes a great but subtle statement, however.

I look forward to seeing more of this, including your weapon.

Hey thanks for the coments guys,

I had a play around with the iPhone Gauntlet, I think it will work pretty well but I want to buy a secure holder (the sort of thing you have for your car) then do exactly as you said Nevu just a sort of flap to cover it.

I can totally understand what you're saying Ioelus, it doesnt help looking through all the awesome customs on here though, I keep seeing things and thinking, "hmmm I could do something like that!"

No pic as of yet but once I have something to hold the phone I'll crack on.

I received my bucket yesterday and after much thought and some scrappy diagrams I felt confident with the look I wanted.

Firstly I should say this is a Rubies Jango lid, I Wanted to get something cheap that I didnt mind messing up, but for future builds I will get something in fiberglass or lay-up my own. The rubbery material used to make this bucket is just too much of a pain to paint.(n)

On to the Helm'..... Sticking with the desert based sniper colour scheme I spent most of this morning masking and painting sections of the bucket. In between painting I dismantled an OLD kodak camera to build my new RF. I wanted it to look more complex than the standard RF, like the sort of device only a trained sniper could use.

After playing with different bits of the camera I decided on something which I think looks pretty sweet. One problem that does need addressing is to tighten the range finder as the extra weight tends to make it fall down a lot.

Once assembled I began the weathering . . . .lots of it :D

I wanted a lot of weathering as I feel like it needs to demonstrate the harsh conditions of a desert, I tried to create an illusion of constant, relentless desert winds. . . .

I still want to lightly sand and dust the bucket but with spray paint but let me know what you guys think.

*** sorry about the picture quality, someone thought it was a good idea to put a shoddy camera in the iPhone:angry ****
