TDH Promotion Ideas

Most of you have better ideas than I do, yet Some people who own Conventions try to get their networking out and make it known to other people by using Myspace. So Perhaps something like an "Official TDH Myspace page"? heh, it's one idea. I know there's a few Fett fanclubs, yet there isn't an official TDH myspace page, so it's an idea.

Let's film all of the photoshoots we do. We can then get all the parades/troops filmed. Once we get all the footage we could edit it together to create a montage of Fett, sort of like how you see those montages of swimsuit model photoshoots. If we could get it all filmed I could edit it together, or I am sure there are other members who could also.

Maybe put tutorials on them. How to paint a helmet, jet pack, armor etc...
Or how to attach armor... Might be helpful to some people.
And part suppliers could advertise their wares.
Some ideas.

From another thread:

How does this look Mirax...

I've got 2 designs here, both im reasonably impressed with, and scaled 3:1 of a Standard Drivers licence/ID Card. I thought as the Business Card was all Red and detailed in black, something like an ID should be different, yet still be easily recognisable as TDH... Then i went back and had a look at the forum... Literally... and this is what I came up with..

Tell me what you think
TDHID2.gif

TDHID3.gif

We need to have our logo and stuff on both sides. You might post this in the other thread and see if the Dent has any suggestions on it. Or Brak's and Gino might be able to take what you have and tweak it some as they have designed our other stuff. We want things to have a consistent look to them so it is easily recognizable as TDH. I think this is a good idea. Let's move this discussion into that other thread- I'll split these posts and move them there.

I moved this info here as I thought it would be relevant to this discussion.

Would love to use the SW music, but copyright issues could come back to us. Like to keep that feeling though...

Since it'll be for a non-profit hand out/giveaway it shouldn't be a problem as long as you're not making money off of the product and the TDH requests permission to use the musical score from LFL and/or John Williams, of course you'd also have a disclaimer crediting Lucas etc..

Definitely ask permission first though, it's the least of things to do, it shows some respect. I'm sure LFL wouldn't mind as long as TDH asked first.

As I was driving today I thought of a bumper sticker that would catch people's (or at least SW fans) attention.

Just plain text that says "I have a Boba Fett costume", then under that have the url.

I'll try to come up with more.

Hehe... Custom TDH Bobbleheads for the Cars :D one step up :D

I like this idea.. quite a bit lol... Still like my Photo ID idea, but a bobble head one would be sweet... just have to find a cheap manufacturer for them...

I also think that the person who comes up with an idea that gets taken and done to completion, should get a free version of whatever is done as a prize/token of winning idea etc... :p

lol a Bobble Fett shirt... ingenious... dorky but ingenious :D

Yes, definitely request! LFL usually has no problem authorizing this kind of thing as long as nobody is personally making any $$ of of it and you add a credit line to it. This was one of the first things we did when we started Mercs. I sent them a detailed email with our club's name and logo. Of course we had to get approval to use Mandalorian, as well as the Jaing skull logo (even though ours is a variant) as our international logo. I also had to outline everything we would be putting our logo on, from shirts to publications, promo movies, flags, ect. This way we could get approval for everything at once. Anything that has a SW likeness or name has to be approved for you to be completely exempt from any possiable copyright problems...even LFL doesn't crack down on it often, it's best to keep your arse covered =)

Bubba, shoot me a PM and I can give you the email addys of LFL employees who can help you with this if you need them. I can also give you a copy of the Mercs approval letter if you need an example of what to ask.

Let me know

Or How about Simply "GOT FETT?" with the URL under it?

Hey everyone, these are great ideas! I am working with The Dent already to implement a couple of them. Everything is going onto the list so that we can continue to explore and prioritize them. Let's keep the momentum going :cheers

Ive got an Idea, may be a bit too ambitious, but could work.... What about getting together the worlds largest amount of Star Wars Bounty Hunters (covers Fetts, Zams and others, in one place doing something radical... say at D'Con '08, doing something insane like a Boba Fett Shuttle Race, for the Guinness Book of Records... :p

Its a bit big, but its publicity.... good publicity I might add, and we could raise money in that community for a cause for the community. For irony sake to a Childrens Burns unit (thinking Sarlacci Acid here...). But it would be for a good cause, get the name out there, and also would raise awareness of the group in a big way :D

Im wanting to get to D'Con '08, although if its something of this calibre might have to be something else later... but if it was done it would be momentus.. plus our place in history in the Guinness Book of Records..

Why does this forum need publicity or promotion?

The more people on here, means more costumes.. more costumes means more resources and costume makers...

Benefits the board as we build as a bigger family (of sorts), and also can bring people in who need items, creating money for those people who create the costumes. Plus also a reputable name, known to the public and not just to the select few, can boost popularity... we could start off a new craze... except have it better sice we would have been here longer...

Mostly its the addition of 'new life' to the boards.. I know that without new people, especially when the long time members start to disappear, the board would colapse and no longer be...

Am I about right there...?

I disagree.

The direction things appear to be taking is more like a business and less like a group that is in pursuit of knowledge and camaraderie which is what the board was founded upon. Many of the original As You Wish Members are still active here. I intend on remaining active as long as I can even though I haven't donned my armor in 2 years.

The name is already reputable and has been for many years, 5 to be precise. When people want Fett (or Zam) knowledge they come here. Everyone refers here. I don't even know that there is another place to refer people to.

Who cares about the public? We aren't here for them. We're here for each other and for Fett/Zam/Mandos info.

What new craze are you looking to start? There are already almost 4000 members. The craze is started and has been in progress since As You Wish was founded some 6 years ago.

I appreciate the enthusiasm that people have for this board but I feel we're falling far afield of the original spirit of TDH. Merchandising, people whining about not having an "official" event (make your own!!!), whatever the case, is not what TDH is all about. It is about us getting together, sharing knowledge about a costume we are all very passionate about, and over the course of that forming bonds that will last till the end of our days.

I disagree.

Appreciate the opinion.

The idea behind promoting the site is to let other people know about it. It might seem like everyone refers here, but they don't. I only tripped across this board by accident. I think I finally found it through the TK409 site.

The idea is not to turn it into a business or make it less fun, but to make it more coordinated - and ultimately make it easier for people to find us.

One of the things we have been trying to do is just make it show up higher in search rankings. TDH is now on the first page of results when you do a search on Fett Costuming now, finally ranking above the site that tells you how to dress your dog like Boba Fett.

Anyway, that's the idea. Help people find the site and help create even more enthusiasm around SW Costuming.

Jason,

Having been here from the beginning, like you, I certainly understand your POV. However, I believe this drive is a good thing if for no other reason than to bring in fresh blood that might answer one of our unsolved mysteries about the suit. I will never forget our little friend from South America stumbling upon the Borden Connector. This was a huge find. No one had come across it even though we KNEW dental pieces were on the suit... and yet he did... Who will be the next person? Perhaps the next newbie that stumbles in here...

I disagree.
