TDH membership question.

TDH membership -answer needed.

I'm trying not to be hard on this one, and I don't even know if I am writing this in the right forum, but I find it really weird for what happened to a future member.

Well, I just came back from a really small and first-time con in the Columbus GA area, namely at the Coca Cola Space and Science Center. One of the organizers, member of the GA 501st (main contact for our group), after seeing my Boba Fett, I handed to her one of the TDH business cards I've got from Dragon*Con, and referred to her to this site for anything she wanted to know about either Mandalorian, Fetts, or Zam....at least to get the basics.

Just on my way out from the Con to go for dinner, during saying goodbyes, she expressed a concern that she tried to join this site while we were at the con, and according to her, this website didn't allowed her to join, because "she didn't have a costume done"??? I understand, as to belong to the 501st IS MANDATORY to have a costume done....but on TDH??!!!

I've always known that TDH (as a basic) is a FAMILY FRIENDLY Forum, that dedicates to the Help and Information on the creation of either Boba, Jango (or any mandalorian), and Zam Wessell, and I hope this forum haven't gone that far, as of restricting future members of joining in, since that would be completely ridiculous.

Did TDH changed rules at some point I don't know, similar as far as the 501st costuming standards has gone lately, or maybe I skipped or slipped something in between so many posts around that I didn't notice? Please, someone tell me I am wrong, and I will find the right answer to the person, besides on locating where exactly her problem is.

Sorry in advace for the rant, not meant to anyone or anything, but I've found that lately this hobby became more frustrating (specially in the past 4-5 months that I know of)...even when you're doing the right thing to others, and some little "technical details" I would say, spoils the fun of joining any group in particular to this hobby.

Although I can't speak for the mods, that is not a requirement. There are plenty of members who don't have a complete costume, me included. There are also so quite a few who haven't even started. Having a requirement like that would completely defeat the purpose of TDH. TDH is here so that people have the knowledge to make a costume.

She might have gotten confused because there is a 24 hour waiting period to join, I believe. This is to reduce spam.

Weird. I can't imagine how she would have encountered such information. There's no requirement on TDH that you even intend to build a costume. It's still all about the fun, the friends, and the information.

I hope she gets the right info, and joins the board.

some of the most active members here don't have a fett suit. it sounds like she was thinking of the phoenix squadron (the 501st detachment for bounty hunters). i think you can only join that board if you have a BH designation.

i think they told me that last year when i aplied there. they said i should check out some website called thedentedhelmet.com or something like that. :p

Never heard of TDH requiring a costume to become a member. We require a costume to be a full trooping member in Mercs, but not for forum memberships. It's possible she could have found us also, especially if you Google "mandalorian costume" as both TDH and Mercs have some sub-links that direct to eachother.

We make it pretty clear about what constitutes each kind of membership though...so if it was us then more then likely she tried to fill out the online membership form by mistake instead of signing up for the forums. We've never really had that happen before though, but I guess anything is possible =)

The only item you need to join TDH is a working email address. If she still has any of the email's that says she can't join, please forward it to me.

Clearly she must have our site confused with another. This site is for BUILDING a costume, hence members generally would NOT have a costume already. There are no "membership" requirements and never have been other than what asok said, a working email address. Again, she must have us confused with another group.

Thanks guys.

Hmmm, interesting. I forgot about the Phoenix Squadron. I will contact her and ask her which website she tried to apply for, plus details of her email address and other info. I will let you know shortly.

I will. ;)

that's one of the things that confuses me about phoenix squadron... by the time you can get there, it's of no use to you anymore, other than for socializing.

I think that she probably looked at the top thread of the dented variants, the mando costume club, one of the main requirements is you need a completed costume.

Maybe that will clear it up:)

interestingly, this seems a popular misconception. a friend of mine was going to register here, but thought he couldn't for lack of a fett suit.

methinks we need to make it more clear that there are no costume requirements here :)

I think the deal with Phoenix Squadron is that you have to be a 501st member to join there, not necessarily have a BH designation. I would agree that something a bit more open (like the MEPD) would probably be useful there though, but I also understand that they have had board issues lately.

(y) for TDH though! :)

This sounds like a job for the sniffer! LOL!

Kidding! She must of had us confused with someone else. I started with nill when I came here.

I`ll take this one....

As an admin for the 501st Phoenix Squadron board, I feel like I should clarify this.

Yes, In order to get on the Phoenix Squadron board, you have to be a 501st member. Hence, sometimes we have to decline memberships because of that reason. But after talking with several people and getting some good ideas, we are working on making part of the board "open" to the public in order for them to get some starter ideas and pointed in the right direction to get their costumes ready and going.
Its not a perfect solution, but I don`t own the board, I just follow the rules set by the owner and try to work within them as best I can, just like here.
