ROTJ_Real behind the scenes

BooBoo welcome aboard and thank you very much for sharing this with us.

That red cod material reminds me on the original Leia Slave costume that I saw at the exhibition in paris.
Maybe it is the same material.

Yup... Actually if you take a look at the cod piece, you will see a lot of red on the right edge, and you will see it again in the movie shot, indicating the cod is made of the same red rubbery material as the stunt helmet he is wearing. I am of the opinion that all of the hard parts on this suit are of the soft red material. Thanks to Tyler for pointing out the red.

Just as a reminder, here is a closeup of one of the stunt helmets (the same helmet the stunt guy is wearing in these scenes) and you can clearly see the same red material.

My best guess is some type of poly... but I am not a plastics person. It definitely appears to have a lot more flex and give than the vacced or fiberglass pieces.

Yeah, I'm sure that's why it was used for the Slave costume. If it's discovered what was used that could lead to some better Slave costumes, or at least more comfortable.

Just realized, that is the jumpsuit we see on display at the Magic of Myth Exhibit! It has the same warm tone and has the same stain markings.

Welcome to TDH and thank you for bringing us cool new/old info! Love seeing this sort of discovery still taking place so many years later!

Maybe hot melt vinyl? Some of the armor worn by Gene Simmons of KISS in the 90's and probably today, was made from it as it was more comfortable to wear than the Kydex used in the 70's. Apparently, you can vac form it just like ABS or styrene.

Hey Gonk27, got your PM. Thank you.

And for everyone....finally got around to visiting Bob Yerkes today. He is more than happy to let me scan any/all photos he has of the filming of "Return of the Jedi". He not only did the Boba Fett in flight shot, but also several falls into the Sarlac Pit and Endor scenes.

Check back every once in a while. Cheers everyone !!!

That is great! Nice shot of the open back of the vest on the left as well!

Looking forward to seeing more pics from Mr. Yerkes!
