great idea for a mod to the forum software

when a user with a postcount of less than 50 clicks submit, do the following:

- check to see if the thread was started > 1 year ago. if so, deny the post
- put up a splash page with a "did you try searching the forum for this? are you sure you really want to post it?"

joking aside, does vbulletin support moderator approval for members with postcount < threshold?

for example, i recently signed up at colonialfleet.org. new members can't start threads, only reply to existing ones. the first 5 posts require moderator approval before they show up on the board.

maybe that would cut down on the necromancy and duplicate questions?

I like this idea. I just can't quite understand why people post threads asking questions that if they had used common sense they would have figured out that their question should have been answered by now on a forum with so many existing threads.

Like someone asking "What paints should I use on this armor/helmet?" Don't you think something like this has already been answered and discussed considering how many Fett's are out there?

Here is an idea that I'm playing off of Brian's idea a little bit.

We have it so that if you register here, there is like a 2 or 1 day probational period, to cut down the spamming right?

Well, when someone registers, can it send the confirmation email to them, as well as in the email a link to the CoC and Forum Rules? This way, if someone does something stupid (ala Mando25)...there is enough reason to just boom...click that ban button?

I mean, people should read the CoC and Rules before posting...I know I did all those years ago when I joined... At the least we can make it just a big freaking page that says, USE THE SEARCH FUNCTION WHENEVER POSSIBLE!!

Keep in mind that "admin approval" means the admins have to spend all day approving or disapproving posts. I don't think they have that much time.

no-one says it has to be fast... on colonial fleet it was around 36 hours between posting and approval when i joined up
