Scratch built MAuser C96 - into DL44

Silverstalker

Active Hunter
So I want a DL44, Denix replica gun company make a fairly good Mauser C96 as a base for the DL44 for about £60.... but continuing on with my ethos of ''reclaim, recycle, reuse, I like to make everything from scratch from other things...

I used some poly pockets to make overlays of a scaled up picture of a Mauser, I found a picture of one on top of a cutting mat so I had something to scale it from..

Making this in modular part so it has seem lines to make it look more 'real' rather than carving the whole thing from one piece of wood. (yes wood). pine is nice to work with if you are cutting with the grain.

I used some 2mm plastic to create the profile.....

some mild ally was cut up to make a trigger, one that moves under spring tension.

Every part on it is made to hide the screws, this way you wont see and bolts, nuts, and screw unless I wanted them on display to look like it should be there...

and at the end of it I have a Mauser. that I can now make into a DL44 the funny thing is I could of had it all at this point 3D printed in an afternoon rather than the 30 odd hours it took to make by hand....:behave

But where is the fun in that eh :D

So far I am pleased with it, needs to be a bit darker on the grip so I will add a little more stain....other than that it's on to the next bit (y)

Man, you have mad skillz. That is awesome! If you need some pics from a DL44 to base the rest of your build, PM me -- I have an alleged prototype of the MR version done by the guy who made them I'd be happy to snap some close ups for any detail you need.

Why thank you, Sir! I am onto the scope mount and scope now, I think I am done with the Masuer it's self I am makeing the rest out of metal as much as I can to give it some weight....once all thats done I will blue it off to make it look more ''gun like'' I guess. (y)

Time for the scope mount, scope and flash hider.

Found some nice thick perspex to start with the rail, (old fire escape sign) and I got an old pool cue to chop into sections to make the screw tops, I don't know what pool cues are made from but its a nice hard wood to work with.

I found the two perfect tubes from some old mop handle and a feather duster

I am trying to make as much of it from steel as I can to give it more weight.

I also found my good old shop hover (Henry Hoover) had a good size pipe I could pinch a bit from

20160808_164120_zpsliiwr0lv.jpg

More of the pool cue to make the top dial on the scope.

20160810_123803_zpsa9vi8dlk.jpg

even more pool cue and some spare feather duster handle to make the third scope mount screw.

I added the side clamps and drilled some holes, I can put screws in to make it look like a clamp.

20160810_130352_zpszlcqxfjs.jpg

The flash hider is a bit more complex to make with things laying about, but I think I got it close, this is the best values I can come up with from research available.

First thing I saw was a handle of an old work bench but alas it was to small
20160810_152535_zps6wnin6nq.jpg

the top off an old spray bottle and some more Henry hoover :D

In the end I made the end section from some left over cardboard cone from my Boba Fett jet pack nozzle, coated in resin and filled the out side..

It was very hard to get the holes all lined up as I have used no precision tooling to make any of this, its all been hacksaws, files and more files!

20160811_110054_zpszs3oipfb.jpg

and here is where it is at so far

20160811_115122_zpswfdempl0.jpg

Here is some more of that Henry Hoover, I plan on making the cooling vent from it,,,
20160811_144534_zpsdrtraxll.jpg

Am getting some paint on the parts now, some silver for under coat...
20160811_192935_zpsfxbwrhsh.jpg
20160811_193030_zps7rusqiab.jpg

Am almost done with it, the scale of it feels and looks good and its nice and heavy in the hand.. cant wait to finish this (y)

Its all finished, very pleased with it, I may varnish the handle a bit more as the thing as whole is quite glossy looking...

20160814_173339_zpsaj4jmpjs.jpg

its all in the details..

I could not make the little disc recess part on the left side without tooling, so I just used a cut off wheel from a grinder (nice and flat) and hit it with some silver and stuck it to the side, its not to bad I would like to think it had something there like this but just.....fell off :confused

another project done with zero cost.. I really do love making things from nothing..

(y)

How much are you selling these for. :)

Sent from my iPhone

I actually bought the plans off a guy on Etsy. Prob cost 50-75 total for all the parts. Not planning on making another one but time and effort would prob put this guy at $300 to have one made with all the pieces.
